Seth Wickersham:

quote:

Owners right now expected to vote on a proposal that would remove requirement for players to be on the field for national anthem, allow them to stay in locker room if they wish, and will fine clubs, not players, if “personnel do not show proper respect for the flag and anthem.”

I think this is a perfectly fine solution, but I'm sure there are still a lot of people who will find this unacceptable.

This is a good compromise. Much better than the rumored 15 yrd penalty for kneelers.

I think most people will be just fine with them keeping their protest off the field.

ETA: I also agree that this is a fine solution, in case that wasn't clear.

I'm in the anti-kneeler crowd and I think this proposal is a fine compromise.

but what message does that send from a kneeling point of view?

for good or bad whatever im still watching the nfl, but why would any of the baltimore ravens stay in the locker room when kneeling gets white america so rustled?

i think what the owners are going for is that they hope the players that would previously kneel stay in the locker room. they are just going to have to embrace it. remember how it wasnt such a big deal after this:

I find it unacceptable that they play the anthem at all.

This is a classic Goodell proposal.

We're taking a PR hit, so let's find a solution that just brushes any controversy out of the public eye. Even if you want to protest, we'd like that protest to be bland and not in a way anyone will notice.

It's also classically Goodell in that he exerted zero leadership as an issue was developing and now just reaches a reactionary, bureaucratic solution way after the fact.

There was no need for a solution in the first place. Conservative snowflakes <<<<< Liberal snowflakes

Snowflakes will be checking off a printed out roster looking to see who stayed in the locker room and who came out. Snowflake gonna snowflake.

You want a solution...stop showing the national anthem before games. I didn't even realize they did this outside of the Super Bowl until some a-hole decided to kneel.

The NFL has no balls ... and the owners have no balls.

And this is the result.

Enjoy your lousy ratings.

Yeah, after the anthem finishes, the hardcore jingoists will just be infuriated by who strolls out of the locker room.

It's worship or die to them.

Yeah, people (and Trump, when he needs the issue back out in front) will still be pissed.

The only two options that would fix this would either be do a real deal with the players that gives them something in exchange for standing or keeping them in the locker room or tunnel and doing the anthem 10 minutes early.

Jesus...and Goodell gets paid 8 figures a year to screw up the simplest shite to this degree.

Just don't have the players out on the field for the Anthem, like they used to do and still do in College.

Problem solved, the end.

I'd love to know who came up with that idea, feels like some dumb shite Dan Snyder would say before Jerry told him to hush. As pointed out, is it outsetting penalties if players from both teams kneel? 15 yard then half the distance to the goal if the team has two kneelers?
