After getting backlash for their focus on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce the last two weeks, the NFL is defending its spotlight on the pop superstar amid her rumored relationship with the athlete.

But the attention towards Swift has led to backlash from some football fans, which the NFL addressed in a statement shared with PEOPLE Wednesday. The league said that the social media changes are a normal part of their strategy.

"We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally," the NFL said. "The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport."

"The vast majority of our content has remained focused on the game, our players and variety of other initiatives, including our Toy Story Funday Football alt-cast, the international games and more," the statement concluded.

Kelce, 33, said himself that the NFL is "overdoing it a little bit" with the attention on him and Swift on Wednesday's episode of his podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce

In the NFL’s undying quest for Taylor Swift’s heart, it asked its networks — NBC, ESPN, Fox and CBS — to show promos for her upcoming movie for free, The Post has learned.

ESPN and NBC acquiesced to the request and showed promos for Swift’s movie during the content portion of their pregame shows this past Sunday and Monday.

ESPN played the Swift movie promos for her concert during “Sunday NFL Countdown” and “Monday NFL Countdown.”

NBC’s free promo was on its pregame show, “Football Night in America,” prior to Chiefs-Jets, which Swift attended.

There was also a Swift commercial during NBC’s game.

The ad time was paid for, according to sources. These 30-second spots are generally approaching the million-dollar neighborhood for a “Sunday Night Football” game.

It’s wild that T swift fans went to the game, knowing nothing about football, just to say they were in a stadium that she was also in yet not even performing

Its pathetic. Anyone that spends money for their daughter or wives to go to any of her shite deserve to go bankrupt. My wife asked if she could get tickets to her concert in Cincinnati and I flat out refused. I’ll deal with a pissed off wife for a week rather than send money to that bullshite

I mean another way to look at this, do they show football clips on the video at concerts?

Nope

It’s not showing celebs being at the game, that’s usually normal (seeing Kate Upton during Astros games).

It’s that press coverage makes it sound like they’re panning to her for every touchdown.

Anytime my wife or I make a purchase over $200 we discuss it. And we can’t purchase anything over $200 unless the other agrees to it after looking at our finances.

But go off and act like this is irrational instead of dropping $600 on a concert ticket

NFL just needs Swift to wear Anti-Trump jersey to the game while drinking Kelce's favorite beer Bud Light.

Just so we're all in the same page about what's going on.

If Kelce is scoring you expect them not to?

Nah. There’s Taylor Swift and then maybe 2 or 3 others I’d consider “celebrity”

I don’t necessarily blame the NFL for doing this since it puts more eyeballs on the league.

Still isn’t a good idea long term to be focusing on extraneous horseshite rather than the actual games.

I don't understand why people get so upset that Swift is a global pop star. I mean, her music isn't for me, but it doesn't make me angry that people love her.
