Cam Newton is like Tom Cruise. He needs to come out of the closet.

This isn’t very nice.

And I’m not sure he’s the caliber of QB to be shitting on guys busting their asses to get QB jobs.

There were guys like Marcus Mariota, Mac Jones, Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Davis Mills, etc making starts last season. Russell Wilson, too. All of which sucked.
Nice try, ya troll!

He may not be a starting QB in the NFL anymore, which is arguable in itself, but he’s definitely better than a ton of backups

People always say this without taking into account all of the context surrounding it.

Similar to Kaepernick, Cam Newton may be better than some guys on rosters(probably not). But like others in this thread have said, organizations don't want a media circus around a player that should rarely be heard and seen

Also, never forget the type of player he is when the pressure is at its highest:

All that said, the league, especially the officials did Cam dirty. They allowed hits on him, game after game, that would have resulted in fines suspensions if they happed to Tom Brady. They cut his career short by at least 3 or 4 years.

He did a lot of this to himself by lowering his throwing shoulder like a fullback and trying to run over NFL defenders. You can only take so many hits on your throwing shoulder before your throwing becomes messed up.

Geno Smith (same age as Cam) is proof you can come back strong if put in the right situation.

That being said, Newton looked absolutely awful his last full year in the league. Like could barely complete a pass awful. His style of play seems to have taken a huge toll on his throwing ability, which was never his strong suit to begin with.

That's not what messed his shoulder up. His left tackle whiffed on a block to JJ Watt and he got blindsided fullspeed as his arm was cocked. Blew out his shoulder and that's a bad one for QBs. Could have happened to anybody.

Backup QB’s are also supposed to be extra film analysts and coaches.

Exactly. That's why Chase Daniel and the McCown brother who just got hired in CAR lasted for so long.

They're not there for potential wins if the starter is injured.

As Tom Moore once said:

Can he?

As another poster already said, Cam doesn't provide a ton of value as a backup. It's not all about how talented he is on the football field compared to other NFL backups.

As a Newton fan,I don't think he adds much and isn't well positioned to impress anyone and grab a starting or prime backup role. I don't think of him being a traditional high end backup who knows multiple systems and can quickly adapt and be relied upon.

That said, I also think this idea that he comes with a circus is very widely overblown. He's always been emotionally immature (more in a childlike manner than a destructive one), but he's not a locker room cancer, he's not going to put your franchise reputation at risk or make a lot of negative news, etc. He's just a colorful guy who unfortunately isn't going to offer much anymore in terms of play or leadership.

There’s literally no reason to compare Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick.

CN1 has never created the media circus Kaep created, ever.

The only talking point would be him pushing a “starter” during a competition.

Easy. Randoms keep their fricking mouths shut, reliably do their job, and don't act like petulant jackasses

Newton is done. He is only looking for more attention which is the main problem with his NFL career.

Raiders need backups at QB. I think McDaniels was at NE with Cam. Hmmm?
