Newton to throw at Auburn Pro Day
Posted by TomBuchanan on 3/21/23 at 1:08 am

Not linking ESPN.
It beats another Kap situation, but this is also the one place he won't be booed and scouts will be there ready to view others, smart play.

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton, a Heisman Trophy winner at Auburn, will throw at the Tigers' pro day Tuesday, he announced in a 54-second video on social media Monday night.
The video came complete with plenty of Newton's patented laughs, while throwing to receivers inside a practice bubble.
"Tell me how these randoms keep getting jobs," an emphatic Newton said in the video. "Don't worry about it. I'm going to show you. I can't wait to show you.

Cam Newton is like Tom Cruise. He needs to come out of the closet.

It’s easy Cam. Randoms get jobs because they aren’t a pain in the backside for the organization. It’s that simple. If you weren’t so needy and attention seeking you would have a cushy backup gig somewhere already but no one wants to take on a problem unless that problem leads to wins. You no longer lead to wins.

Backup QB’s are also supposed to be extra film analysts and coaches. Was Newton known as a slouch when it came to film study? If he was. That’s a huge reason. That backup spot still holds value and purpose and isn’t just an empty position collecting checks.

He may not be a starting QB in the NFL anymore, which is arguable in itself, but he’s definitely better than a ton of backups and can add to a locker room both on the field and through development.
There were guys like Marcus Mariota, Mac Jones, Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Davis Mills, etc making starts last season. Russell Wilson, too. All of which sucked.

DJ Fluker will be at Alabamas as well trying to get back in the league.

Maybe.

I think this is the problem actually. Can he be the backup and do the things the backup is supposed to do? Didn’t go great in that department in NE.

Does Cam hit up the XFL/USFL?

Cam can’t exist as a backup… Baker going the same route… Wentz almost there too

Cam is through in the NFL. Maybe he can give the XFL or USFL a shot if he still wants to play football.

Couple things at play here. Keeping an older backup QB is expensive, because of league minimum rules and likely his own demands. If a team is going to do that, the backup needs to be like another coach or analyst out there that knows the offense in and out and can help the started identify what the defense is doing.
Not sure Cam really has intimate knowledge of many systems out there now, where he can benefit the starter. Offenses were crafted around his skillset and relied on him playing off script. There's a team or two out there that fits the type of game he played, but not sure if they'd want to shell out $3-$5 million for a guy that really can't help the starter get better. I'm sure he feels like he has something left, but only would fit at a place like Philly, where he could backup Hurts. Philly doesn't need him or have the free cap room to commit to a backup QB.
All that said, the league, especially the officials did Cam dirty. They allowed hits on him, game after game, that would have resulted in fines suspensions if they happed to Tom Brady. They cut his career short by at least 3 or 4 years.

Based off of what exactly? The fact he went to auburn?

This is laughable
Cam has NEVER been about anybody but Cam. He carried himself like an emotional teenage female. I have zero clue what on earth would lead you to believe that he’d be good for a locker room, especially in a diminished, backup role

Who knows if the scouts will see anything in him that they like.
One thing for sure, the receivers should look a lot better. Cam has to be more accurate than any of the QBs on the Auburn roster right now.
