I disagree to the fullest extent that a rule should be added to account for this wild one-off move. Posture? Come on, man.

I didn’t ask for a rule. I asked for the current rule to be enforced. There is a difference.

You know god damn well that this will be attempted again unless a statement is released stating that this should have been blown dead where he began his slide.

Just implementing the rules that are already in place.

This rule?

Yes

quote:No one said anything like this. I’m not sure why you continue to make stuff up. He simulated/began a movement that effectively makes him down and causes the defense, by rule, to pull up. If you want that to be legal then the rule about not hitting sliding players has to be removed and they have to be fair game until they are actually down. It isn’t possible to have both.
You're less than one step away from calling for a rule that a player should be down for even thinking about going down.

He "obviously" began a move that ended in 20 more yards. Got it. Hell of a slide.

Second angle shows it best. He deeked em

By starting the slide he automatically becomes a "defenseless player."

A ball carrier who has obviously given themselves up and is sliding feet first.
He began to slow down, tucked his right leg and had his left foot out. Pickett also admits that he started the slide.

He said that he started a slide in postgame presser, it was a slick move but it should have been blown dead.

He obviously faked a move. It was a great split second decision. If he had been hit nobody would have been penalized. Guys who actually slide take hits all the time with no flags thrown. It should be a "oh shite what a move" thing, not a "ermugerd that should illegal" thing.

He faked a slide, should be blown dead

It was since the defenders gave up as soon as he started to slide like they're supposed to do.

Fake slide then actual slide results in penalty

Thanks for the link. I'm too lazy to search hits on slides that don't result in a penalty, but we agree it happens and is fine right?
We also agree a penalty on that Wilson play was the wrong call right? People tend to have a bad habit of arguing for something they don't actually agree with, so just taking the temperature here.

He should be down where he faked it

He drug his foot and the defense stopped. That's not enough to stop a play for.

The QB admitted he was in the process of sliding before changing his mind at the last second. The defenders did what they were supposed to do and slow up. The rules already overwhelming favor the offense. What is a defender supposed to do on that play?

Not quit on the play.

I’m glad the morning has sobered a few people up and a few more people agree with the obvious truth that it was simply bad defense and shouldn’t have been blown dead.

If he doesn't quit on the play the QB likely completes the slide and draws the penalty.
