They bought the land at 114/183 in Irving that used to be Texas Stadium. The rumor is that they are trying to help get legislation to make gambling legal in Texas and they could build a casino/arena/destination there. However they’re under so much scrutiny after the Luka trade, they’re saying no, not trying to move to Vegas… not trying to move out of Dallas proper, but do want to build a new entertainment district and arena and that’s why they hired the new CEO that took over after Cynt Marshall retired because he was in charge of San Fran’s new arena. Eta: this is was sent to me from one of my well connected Dallas friends.

This is all public information. You aren’t sharing anything everyone doesn’t already know

I freaking hate the way pro sports does its business. It always fricks the fans and those people that don’t give a shite about pro sports but have to foot the bill.

feel there was a less complicated way to own a franchise in Vegas than this

Vegas is getting expansion, they already know who the owners will be, and it’s not them

I bet the life span of a professional sports venue would miraculously be a lot longer than 30 years if the multi billion dollar businesses occupying them had to build it themselves.

For sure. And I don’t think tanking the team as they recently have done will help them pass tax bills needed for a new stadium. The public is pretty fed up with the Mavs.

That conspiracy to trade Luka and tank the org for a new arena doesn't look that crazy

The conspiracy was they wanted an arena and a casino or they were going to try to move the team I thought?

CEO Rick Welts says the team will need a new arena soon.

Rick Welts is from the west coast, in his 70’s, was semi-retired, and had a cushy part-time job with the Warriors.

He is also credited with navigating all the political and sponsorship land mines by getting a new arena built in San Francisco and moving the Warriors from Oakland.

As a result, the Warriors valuation has nearly tripled since 2018 largely due to the new arena. Welts moved to Dallas for one reason…. to get a new arena built before their current lease ends in 2031.

I’m sure they will be met with open arms for public funding. I thought American Airlines was pretty nice when I was last there but it’s been a few years. I guess that isn’t really relevant though

its 25 years old, 13th youngest in the NBA right now.

Also has been updated, so in reality...it doesn't need a new arena. they really are pushing their agenda.

OKC is building a new arena. Construction starts in July (tear down the building where it goes, not existing arena). Should be ready by 28 season.

Current one was originally built to entice hockey, ended up borrowing Hornets then got Seattle team. Not sure what will happen to it, likely waiting for a developer to buy land and raze, build something tall.

So if Mavs move OKC is primed to take some Dallas fans (just kidding for you die hards).

But if Mavs did move that leaves a hole in big TV market. What a mess down there.

Unless thats their plan all along. They had to know gambling would fail. By gutting team and shipping off their future they know city won’t support new stadium. Convenient.

They can build a new stadium whenever they want, all they gotta do is pay whatever it costs.

If they are gonna charge $14 a beer the taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing their arena

Well, the Mavs have plenty of time to save money for a new arena. That is what the local area should tell them.

New stadiums should only be allowed once every 100 years.

I’m sure the area is lining up to get them funding after the Doncic disaster. It’s almost like they don’t want to be in Dallas anymore…hmmm

Words cannot express the absolute disaster that the Mavs franchise has gotten themselves into here in the last 2 months. It is either intentional or the worst leadership of an organization in the history of professional sports. It is either one or the other. Or maybe both.
