So let me get this strait, if you fair catch the ball anywhere inside the 25 yard line, no matter what the ball comes out to the 25 yard line??? What in the dumbfrickery is this??? At this point, just get rid of the kickoff. It’s pointless now. Football has had too many rule changes, it’s becoming hard to keep up.

It's a good rule.

Prevents that pop up kick that goes to the 10 or 15 and gets the returner killed.

The returner always could have fair caught. He also could have slid before getting hit. More over, he could not sign up for football tryouts if he’s scared.

I wonder how it will affect recruiting since any baw in the rec can come in and kick a touch back. Those field goal kickers who can also consistently kick touch backs just lost what made them special.

Ole Miss took a kickoff to the house this morning, and Michigan just did the same against ND. And I’m sure they were more

Probably won’t change much

I'm not crazy about the new the rule. I imagine it may encourage some teams to experiment with squib kicks to get around it, don't know if it'll help.

Evidently, the school up north of y'all opted out of it just now taking to it the house. Couldn't have happened to better people.

Yep.

Except for that little thing where they can kick the ball between the uprights on a consistent basis.

I would rather the new rule than getting rid of kickoffs and eliminating the on side kick

This board loves to overreact. The rule was barely even noticeable today.

I don’t think most people even realized there was a change. This is based on the groans and simmering anger in the stadium today when Boobie fair caught the ball at the 8 against UW.

Well, that and the fact that the returner isn't required to fair catch the ball. Kicking it out, of as in passed the back of the end zone (i.e. unreturnable), is still a skill many of the kick off specialists can't do consistently.

It screwed Michigan today. Lined up for the onside kick and. Booted it to the 7. Instead of being able to tackle him deep in his territory the dude was able to advance it to the 25

So if you tackle a returner short of the 25, it comes out to the 25?

No, it would be marked to where ever they got tackled.

Btw there were 7 KR TDs.

No, if you fair catch the ball within the 25, it automatically comes to the 25.

I think the last rule change of getting it on the 25 instead of the 20 did more damage. If you watch now, very few returns get farther than the 25. You are almost always better to fair catch or let it go through the endzone to get it on the 25 unless its a must situation like the clock running out
