The most interesting questions heading into the final week:

1) If SMU loses to Clemson, do they fall behind Bama? (Technically you could ask that about Boise/UNLV too, but that seems obviously yes.)

2) Would the B1G / SEC title game losers drop at all? Obviously they’re guaranteed in the field, but could they fall lower in seeding?

3) Is ACC winner as 3 seed, Boise as 4 seed and Big 12 winner as 12 seed set in stone? Seems obvious if it’s chalk, but what if Clemson wins? Do they jump the Big 12 champ?

This was somehow supposed to be a better system or something. Idk. I forget how.

But much to my great surprise, it's looking like the expanded playoff was only intended to create more opportunities for matching up big name brands to make the most money and those rankings will be manipulated with that in mins.

If they set the precedent of a conference champ game loser dropping 5 spots to out the field for a 3 loss team that didn’t play a conference champ game…this thing is fricked already

Clemson would bump Miami

Miami is already bumped bro. Arizona St/Iowa St winner is guaranteed a spot.

This is how unbelievably stupid this whole thing is, they come up with a stat to make it appear that Bama losing to two 6-6 teams is a good thing. This whole thing is a fricking sham and it’s not just because of Bama. They pick their desired results and then find a justification. I’m not the least bit excited for this.

Can't wait for dumbass Miami fans to still think they'll stay at #12.

This. Miami is basically toast unless they do the unthinkable and have them jump Bama.

Bama getting the last at large spot is genuinely so hilarious.

Just pretty much confirms the playoff should be Top 8 only

The 4th best SEC team doesnt belong (especially being tied with 5 other SEC teams). Because if they would somehow play in the SECCG, they would end up with a 4th loss, and out for certain

This is the biggest question of the week. The rest of the CCGs are either 1 bid leagues (Big 12 and MWC) or both participants are getting in (SEC and Big Ten). Ohio St, Indiana, Notre Dame, and Tennessee are locked in as at larges. The final 2 spots come down to 3 teams - SMU, Clemson, Bama. If SMU wins, SMU and Bama get in. If Clemson wins, then they get an auto bid and then it's the million dollar question for the committee - Bama or SMU?

SMU could make it all a lot cleaner by just winning and then selection Sunday is simply a matter of seeding. This season has been pretty chaotic though so I fully expect Clemson to win and there will be pre-emptive flame wars on the internet the entire night bleeding into the morning.

At this point we should want Clemson to win because it automatically puts the Committee in a position to reveal its true intent from day 1

No. Bama has always been in. Nothing matters.

Don’t know why this is so fricking hard to find on the internet. Does anyone have a link to what ASU’s preseason odds were to win the Big 12 conference, and what their odds were to make the playoffs?

Argument over the longer odds, the 3-9 team last season that was picked to finish dead last in their conference this season and won. Or Leicester City winning the PL when they did it a decade or so ago. Both probably between +50000 and +100000

I must say, it's pretty cool to finally see SEC teams head up north for these playoff games.
