He was destined to not meet the hype at UT Still say he’ll end up being a decent QB

Right now he seems like a Texas version of Kellen Mond. Decent college QB overall, makes as many frustrating mistakes as he makes impressive plays, and is held back by odd play calling and team deficiencies beyond his control.

The great, can’t miss QB prospect’s last high school game was a 49-13 loss where he went 8 of 21 for 96 yards with two interceptions and one lost fumble. One of the interceptions and the fumble were returned for touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Should have been the indicator that he wouldn’t live up to the hype

He is not even through his first season as a starter playing against some the best teams in college football week after week
behind a putrid o line and young skill players and not many of those

Never seen anything like it? Lol. He’s an inexperienced player that is growing and getting better. He has super high expectations from the beginning that he was never realistically going to be able to live up to.

Thank you for this take. I'm no Arch Manning super fan, but the way people were talking about a 2A QB before playing in the Shoe in his first game as the full-time starter was insane. Having watched him play a bunch in high school, I couldn't believe people were talking about him as a potential Heisman winner. He was never that good.

And then, when he inevitably didn't live up to the hype, he suddenly sucks and is the biggest bust ever.

The narrative with Arch is so toxic. He's a good QB. He's not going to single-handedly drag Texas to a national championship, but he's good enough to help Texas win one if he had the pieces around him.

It's the media's fault. Calling the dude generational before he had done anything set him up for failure and mockery. They also learned nothing from the rush to crown him because after he had played and showed he wasn't ready Dan Orlovsky declared he's just gonna be the #1 pick of the 2027 draft instead.

He hasn’t lived up to the hope for sure.

But last night his receivers dropped 4 balls (one TD) and the team had 7 penalties in the first half.

He definitely will. One year college starters rarely amount to much in the NFL.

This is just funny. In a couple years when he’s leading a team into the playoffs we can revisit this thread. Dude is a true freshman thrown to the wolves. He’ll be fine and you guys will be wishing you had him.

I’ve been saying this since his HS days.

Names and hype can cloud the judgement of even people who evaluate for a living. Mel Kiper thought Shedeur Sanders was the best QB in the draft last year.

It really does, first of all if his last name were Jones instead of Manning coming out of Newman, you think he's overhyped this much/ The answer is absolutely 100% not.

Jones may have gotten a scholarship yeah, but you know those big time schools fighting over him are assuming the name and pedigree count for something - probably would have gone after another if his name was Jones. Maybe Jones goes to Tulane in that scenario?

He struggles big time on 3rd down and at times, his mechanics are questionable which is odd because he’s had all the best coaching you could ask for.

He's in his 3rd year at Texas. He will return for one more season. And he won't be leading Texas to any playoffs next year.

This. Newman got the death penalty from LHSAA for violations. They were loaded and not playing anyone

This isnt the reason for playing against lower talent. It's the public/private split. Cooper, Peyton, and Eli all still had to play the public schools.

He’s likely going to finish his first year as a starter 8-4 and 5-3 in the sec.

Texas doesn’t appear to have much offensive talent. Arch hasn’t been particularly impressive and turns 22 years old this spring.

That said, it wouldn’t shock me at all if he turns in a really good season next year and has Texas as a top team next year.

Then you haven't watched enough football. Joe Montana's son comes to mind.

He reminds me of Chris Simms who also played at Texas.

The Arch hate on here is sad. He’s in his first year as a starter in the toughest conference in America. He’s actually shown some improvement.

On one hand, you have the “experts” who will say he played bad comp in HS and “anybody who watched can tell you he sucks and is overrated”. Any kind of success he might have, and those goalposts will surely move.

I don’t have any skin in the game with UT right now. He seems like a good kid. Why not want to see him do well and represent Louisiana HS positively. I find it odd that people from LA want to see a home grown kid fail. With LSU sucking, I think it’s fair to think in a practical manner.

I'm not sure it's all hate...sure there is some of that, but I think his name is both a blessing and a curse....similar to Bronny. He got hype and shine he should not have gotten and would not have gotten had he not been an Manning.

That's hard to live up to - not sure he'll ever be able to because very simply he was hyped beyond his actual talent because of his name.

Not saying he's a scrub, but I'm not seeing best QB of his recruiting class or anything close to it.
