Big East has changed a bit since those days. Big East is a collection of Catholic schools now.

I think it will be the Big East. The Catholic rivalries make sense, especially with Villanova, now that Willard appears to have improved things there. You also have St John’s and Pitino.

Auburn, Bama, UGA, TAMU, Texas, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Florida all have scheduled ND in the last 6 years or currently scheduled to play them. That's over half the SEC.

Let them play 6 games against SEC schools and see how they do. Went 1-1 against Aggie and Arkansas.

ND trying to leverage the ACC is like Portugal trying to leverage the Austo-Hungarian Empire. It's sad, really.

Or Auburn wins twice and ND disappears for 2 years.

I’d much, much rather be in the Big East in bball than the ACC. ND has much more in common with the new Big East schools than the ACC schools, and it’s much more geographically-aligned.

Big East is a decent-enough conference in the other sports, plus it’s not like those other sports matter much anyway. A downgrade in baseball I guess, but outside of the SEC nobody really cares, and it’s probably the 6th-most important sport to ND at best (behind football, both basketballs, hockey and lacrosse).

Obviously, the tricky part would be filling out a complete 12-team football schedule. But you have Navy, Clemson, Stanford and (hopefully, if they’re not cowards) USC annually. Throw in a random G5 mercenary each year and you’re at 5 already. Maybe could make an arrangement with Sankey to play 4 SEC games a year (guarantee 2 road games for SEC TV contract) and then can just fill out the rest with 3 from the B1G / ACC / Big 12.

ND under Freeman against SEC:
W 45-38 v. USCe
W 23-13 @ TAMU
W 23-10 v. UGA (SEC Champ UGA)
L 41-40 v. TAMU
W 56-13 @ Arky

Sure bro, Freeman is 1 point from being 5-0 against the SEC.

Well, when ESPN, the SEC and the ACC conspire to keep you out of the CFP, you probably should separate.

Here's a question, why does everyone dislike Notre Dame not being in a conference? What's wrong with being independent? It's not like mega conferences have improved college football. Quite the opposite.

Who they just won the SEC with this season, and they had a month to game plan with before the Sugar Bowl.

This is such a weak SEC homer argument.

he played one half of the SECCG...he had very limited experience and was a true freshman...but congrats to ND, I guess...

ND is a stagnant football brand...I am glad they got punished for their schedule...

I actually sort of agree with this, but Freeman is doing a great job of rebranding them for a younger generation. It'll take actually winning a title in the next 2 years though to really wake up the echoes. Brian Kelly does that to a program.

If Auburn had any balls they would tell ND to frick off. ND is able to schedule a couple sec games bc
1. they need the sec/big 10 to strengthen their schedule
2. they don't have a conference.

Why would any sec/big10 team want to support ND football? We already have huge tv contracts we don't need ND

Please, only reason the USC - ND game is not currently scheduled is for the same reasons ND won't join a conference. ND can't dictate every term for everything. SC will enjoy watching the playoffs on the outside looking in just like ND.

Because I’m sick and tired of college football playoff rules being written with provisions for if Notre Dane. has a good season. Join a conference and we don’t need anymore “conference winners and Notre Dame if they are ranked.in tiop ____.

This isn’t the 1930-1993 anymore. Notre Dane is not someone to make provisions for. College football is just fine without them.

Notre Dane isn’t nearly as Eire as they think they are. You would think this little slice of humble pie would do then well, but they seem to be taking the opposite approach. Just drop football and focus on being a lacrosse school.

Yeah, okay, THAT’S the reason and not 7 out of the last 8 and 10 out of the last 13…
