NCAA rule committee proposes if game reaches a 5th OT, teams would then alternate 2-point conversions until a winner was determined
If player gets a 2nd targeting call during the season, he will be suspended for next full game on top of the game he was kicked out of for the hit.

In the past four seasons, only seven games across all divisions lasted longer than four overtimes.

So they're actually doubling down on stupid.
Got it.

They also claim to make targetting harder to confirm and easier to overturn but I’ll believe that when i see it.
Basically they are saying it’s innocent unless proven guilty

So if he's penalized in the 2nd half of a game, he would miss the first half of his next game (for the penalty itself), then the 2nd half of that game plus the subsequent first half of the game after that(for the total punishment of two targetings)?

Not the worst idea

Awful. There needs to be a complete revision of the targeting rule. Intentional vs not intentional. Both are still a penalty if actual helmet to helmet occurs, but the kid who does it on accident shouldn't be removed from the game.

Within the next 5 years targeting will be a felony charge

No, he would miss rest of game he was kicked out of, and then the Whole next game.
So it would be a 1 game suspension.
So it would be a 1 game suspension.

Got it.
Still sucks for the kid who gets penalized in the first half compared to the kid who gets it in the 2nd half.
Has to sit out an entire half more for the same penalty.

quote:why don't they just make that all of overtime? Just trade 2 point conversions. That way it won't take hours and the game won't be 70-70

All you're trying to do in over time is determine a winner, and honestly, regular season games don't even need that

This won't cause me to stop watching. But I fricking hate it and I'm pretty sure we're headed in a direction where one day they'll cause me to quit watching.

Or just start with forced two point conversions from the start. No extra point attempts.

I like the OT rule kind of
Hate the new targeting rule

I was pretty fricking sure or hopeful that they were going to change the rule and stop ejecting kids for clearly accidental grazing of an opponent's helmet.
This shite is truly shocking to me.

There are around 670 college football teams in the country. Assuming they each play 12 games per year, that roughly translates into around 4,025 games total every year.
Being that only 7 went to at least 5 overtimes over the past 4 years, that means it has less than a 0.04% chance of happening.
Assuming I didn't screw the math, 7 over a 4yr period is not a high number.
