Except they can’t make that rule

Why not?

We are paying “amateur” athletes now. Clearly we can have whatever rules they want

You have it backwards.

We're paying them because you can pay anyone. The illegal part was the rule you couldn't pay them because they played sports for a school when you could pay other students at the school.

Judge makes an NCAA rule illegal on the basis that they violate anti-trust laws and his takeaway was "well clearly we can have whatever rules they want".

No, sir. They CAN'T have whatever rules they want. Judges have literally been striking down the rules theyve had for the past 5ish years and that's why we are in the current situation. The NCAA didn't change rules, judges did.

There should be a single portal window and you have to sit out a year if you transfer. The only exception to sitting out a year is if the coach who recruited you was fired.

I’m talking about payments from the university

problem is classes start before end of playoff in most places the academic side is still supposed to play some part in all of this
They should eliminate conference championship games, move the playoffs up to CCG weekend, and wrap the whole thing up around NYD. We don’t need a massive break before playoffs that backs the whole thing up into late January.

It’s all good guys. I’m sure there’s already a lawsuit waiting at that liberal dickbag judge’s chambers to eliminate the restrictions on the portal all together

Single transfer portal window is fine, but doesn’t May make the most sense?

Then you are working on guys all spring who plan on hitting the door ASAP.

The easiest way to resolve this is to eliminate transfers during the academic school year altogether by that requires a group of adults with a backbone to tell young people what they hate hearing the most: No.

instead of going back to sitting out a year (it'll never happen), maybe have the window in late May so a player can transfer, but they have to sit out spring ball and can't join the new team until June.

I’d love to hear how setting a reasonable transfer window for athletes is a violation of anti-trust laws when there are already transfer windows that create chaos currently.

This is a very good compromise. Teams would know what they have to work with heading into fall camp and players would have to consider what effect missing out on spring position battles if they jump in the portal.

Or just treat them like other students and make them qualify academically. They can apply to enroll in fall or spring semester. So two windows, but you better hurry because admissions is filling up fast.

Would it?

“You won’t be eligible to play for X football team if you transferred to X university outside of these specific dates”.

How is that any different than any of the other eligibility rules that don’t violate anti-trust laws?

So a 10 day free agent period in the middle of the playoffs??

Solid move. Solid
