From the regional rounds
to the super regionals
to the bracket play at CWS
to the championship series at CWS

It tests every aspect of your team especially if you get in the loser's bracket of a regional or in Omaha

My only gripe is rosters need to expand so teams have more depth especially on the mound

My only complaint is that the CWS seems to benefit small ball/pitching teams over teams that hit the ball really well. At least it used to at the early days of the BBCOR era. Preferably it wouldn't benefit either team and they'd both compete "evenly".

Have they gotten that evened out at all? I haven't watched the CWS since 2017.

I am not a fan of the home/away team musical chairs the regional format has. The high seed and best record should be the home team.

i.e. If you lose the first game (unless you are the high seed in the first losers bracket game) you won't be home until game 7 if you make it. There is no reason LSU should have been the home team against Gonzaga yesterday.

Minor issue, but I still think it is the best format.

the only issue with it is that there needs to be a break before the CWS final. I want to see ace vs ace, 2v2, and 3v3 to win a championship. I'm still mad we didn't get Lange vs Faedo in Omaha

They need to get rid of the 11.7 scholarships and allow the full roster to have scholarships like football

I agree but not sure how it would work. You would have to break for a full week. So what do you do with the teams? Do they fly back home and then come back a couple days later? Do you hold them there for an entire week?

Either option seems like a lot of expense for a sport that only makes money for a small handful of schools.

I like regional play but I find it weird in a sport where you play 3 game series every weekend you suddenly switch to a regional format for the postseason

They could keep it a 2/3 series for the postseason if 64 teams. Seed everyone and play 3 series to get to 8 teams and Omaha. But that wouldn’t be as exciting as regional format.

The current postseason is

4 team regional
2/3 super regional
4 team regional in Omaha
2/3 championship series in Omaha

20 plus years later, I'm still not a fan of the super regional concept.

Still think they should have gone with 8, 8-team regionals.

Just don't like the mixed format.

The regional-super regional is exactly what the CWS is

4 team regional - 2/3 series

Omaha is 4 team regional - 2/3 series

The 6 team regionals were an awful lot of fun to watch.

I agree. It makes for good theatre, but splitting regionals up into two weekends of best 2/3 would be a more accurate representation of who the best teams are. Plus, more teams would get a chance to host postseason games. I think it'll happen eventually.

I've long said baseball is the toughest title to win. For the most part everyone is a quality opponent in a sport where anything can happen. It takes 5 wins sometimes in 2 different venues just to get to Omaha. From the travel to the overall grind of this thing, it's just an impressive event.

2/3 series helps teams with fewer good pitchers.
To advance all you have to do is win two games.

In baseball sure. You can't play that many games in such a short period in basketball or football.

you can still lose one game per round... you can also get in with a decent but not great record, and if you won't, then you still have a chance in most leagues with the conference tournament

basketball and football you can't have that off day, and in football, you only get one off day period, and that's if your schedule is strong enough

The general roster doesn't really need to be expanded. Its the active roster that needs expanding. If we could have brought Money and 1 other pitcher, we'd be in great position for tonight's game as far as number of arms available.

Maybe make the bracket play in Omaha single elimination and then you would have enough time to space it out before championship round
With a single elimination bracket in Omaha maybe you could even expand number of teams to make Omaha

In college sports yes.

In all of Sports its either the MLB or NBA.

NBA you have to beat a team 4 times to win a series which is why upsets are rare.

Same with MLB. Plus you have an incredibly large sample size in the regular season to weed out teams that don’t belong
