First fairly major deal appears to be a Pelicans/Blazers deal.

The Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans are in serious discussions on a trade centered on guard CJ McCollum, sources tell ESPN. Talks are ongoing today.

Full trade, per sources:
Blazers: Josh Hart, Tomas Satoransky, Nickeil Walker-Alexander, Didi Louzada, 2022 protected first-round pick, two second-round picks.

Interested to see what the picks are. Don’t expect them to have much value at all. Prior to the season I read article saying CJ was viewed as a “negative asset” around the league due to his contract.

If they're lottery protected I'm riding with this trade.

Sucks to lose Hart. I watch almost every Pels game and night in/night out, he brings it.

But the Pels have needed shooting for as long as I can remember and we just brought in a sniper.

We're by no means contenders all of the sudden, but a core of Zion, BI, CJ, Herb Jones, Val is pretty formidable and exciting.

The Pelicans are sending Josh Hart, Tomas Satoransky, Nickel Alexander-Walker, Didi Louzada, a future first-round pick and future second to the Blazers, sources tell ESPN.

That’s highway robbery by the pels right? I haven’t kept up with the NBA very closely this year so maybe one of those guys has become a much better player than in the past but that seems insanely low value for CJ

McCollum has a big contract and considered way overpaid by a lot of people around the league.

If I had a nickel for every time people on message boards claimed a team got fleeced in a trade and it turned out not to be true when looking back, I’d be a very wealthy man.

Seems to just be the general consensus opinion on this trade regardless of the platform, but as I said I haven’t paid a ton of attention yet this season so fully aware I could be missing a big part of the context

I agree with this take. Way too many people claiming we fleeced them. We will look back in hindsight wondering why we gave up a player with as much potential as NAW

Protection is if it lands between 5 and 14 in 2022, Blazers get it. If it doesn't, it kicks to a future date.

I bet you would have said the same crap about Jaxson Hayes two weeks ago. NAW’s been in the league 2.5 seasons and had covid interrupt all by 1 and you can make a judgement like that on his playing ability. Yeah I don’t buy that

Looks like the Blazers are all in on tank mode. I wonder if they try to trade Dame before deadline. You know he can't be happy there right about now.

Does the protection carry to the future date or is it unprotected if it doesn’t land between 5-14?
