He's awful defensively. He isn't all of a sudden a good defender just because your defense is worse when he's off the court.

I know he's not good defensively, but I was expecting his defense to be much worse. It really wasn't terrible this year like I saw when he was with the Pelicans. I'd watch games when he was on the Pelicans where he'd get abused time and time again.. sometimes several trips down the court in a row.
There wasn't one game this season where I was like "man he sucks on defense" like I've done with some players in the past.
Just like how Eric Gordon all of a sudden became a pretty decent defender this season, Ryan Anderson actually wasn't terrible defensively either.
But because you don't really watch the Rockets, you wouldn't know that.

Yep, never felt like he was below average.

Heard it from pels fans how bad at defense he supposedly was, but i saw the exact opposite as well.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but who did the Rox trot out to play the four after Ryan sat? It seems like that position is pretty thin for you guys.
He also played with the best defenders (ariza, bev) a majority of the time. That factors into his +/-.

Either Sam Dekker, who was a pretty decent defender, or they'd put Trevor Ariza at the 4.
I'm not saying Anderson got really good defensively. I'm saying he didn't suck. He was just pretty average. Didn't do anything spectacular but didn't do anything bad either.

quote:Although his real defensive plus minus was only a -0.12, which isn't too bad, he ranked 56th among power forward (3rd offensively though).
Ryan Anderson actually wasn't terrible defensively either.
In other words, he's in a position that usually has high defensive value, so he excels offensively but struggles defensively, comparatively speaking.

PrimeTime or any other Rockets faithful does Dekker have potential?

Multiple reports saying Suns won't include Josh Jackson in any potential deal for Irving.

I love Dekker, and I hate that we got rid of him. I think he would have seen serious playoff minutes if he hadn't broken his hand late in the season.

I am sick of this Melo saga. I just want something to happen.

So yes your defense may have improved with him on court vs his replacement, but he was still a net negative.
You HAVE to pair him with guys who are good defenders. When he was on court with AD/Howard he did fine. Take them off and you are SOL.
He's a limited defender, good bigs will dominate him and he's slow on help defense. He isn't OMG the worst defender in the league, but he's going to be a negative on that end more often than a positive.
More often than not, in his career he's shown that already. One "average" year doesn't change that.
As for EG, I said it before, he's not horrible. His athleticism was zapped but he has the IQ to know what to do...he just can't keep up with the #1 guard/wings, you could stick him on most 2nd-3rd guys and he'd be fine.

Ehh, bad back, and he wasn't a good shooter. If his back holds and his shot improves he'll be a good player.

McMenamin reporting Towns and Butler pushing Management for a Kyrie deal. Would Wiggins, a pick and a contract work?
