Is the fact that I never know how much time is left it’s seems.

For instance tonight I’m watching the end of the game and it says +7 at 93 minutes already and the announcer said that also depends on so and so injury that had just happened basically insinuating they really have no idea how much time is left and if they will add even more than the +7.

Think I’m just being unreasonable, but I like games I can see how much time is left.

The referee only knows when the game will end.

It looks to me like he purposefully wanted Turkey to have that one last action before he called the game.

There should be a fricking clock…and fighting should be allowed.

If men with sticks on skates on ice can fight…surely these little weasels should be allowed to scuffle in lieu of flopping theatrics.

Ref isn’t going to call the game 99% of the time if the trailing team is attacking

I think that’s how it works.

I'm general, stoppage time will always be the added minutes after the 90th minute with two real exception.

One there is stoppage with in stoppage time, like the injury we saw. For that purpose look at what time the injury occured on running time and when play resumed. The difference will be potential time added.

The other exception is if there is an ongoing attacking play that occurs at end of stoppage play. The ref will let the attack play out. In football terms think of it as an untimed down

See the biggest word you said in the whole thing is “potential” time that may be added.

I want definitive time dammit. lol

I want to know, when I want to know, when I wanna know it. The time that is.

I don’t want to guess at the end so much.

Maybe that’s why these people go crazy is its all up to chance and the ref.

Watch more soccer and you’ll understand it… the early 90s are over, most of the USMNT audience has watched a soccer game or played FIFA before

A lot of things really are archaic.
Like the problem with counting goals in standings is you get worthless running up the score against weak teams. With the point system and draws and small groups you get teams incentivized to collude. These things have happened a lot in FIFA and it seems to me we figured that out long ago in our sports and that’s why we don’t do it anymore.
But you can’t avoid draws in such a low scoring sport but at the same time the referee has the power to award penalty kicks. It’s impossible to score the entire game, goals are beyond precious, but one team is given a free opportunity based on human ref judgment. So it’s the most easily corruptible and likely to have bullshite results

Some people only like it because it’s different and European. There is a really bizarre elitism. They don’t want it to get more popular. They are cultural soccer fans, not real fans of the game. Talk about casuals.

A ref isn’t going to call a game when a team is attacking. If they cleared the ball, then he’ll call the game.

Stupidest thing I noticed as a new soccer observer (not fan) is that they don't stop the clock during the match and add an unknown amount of time at the end at the complete discretion of the ref. Call a time out, cart off the injured player, who probably isn't really hurt anyway, restart the clock and end the game at 90 minutes.

Watching soccer is like watching hockey without all the good parts, fights, body checks, etc.

USA, USA, USA I guess. I will probably watch golf this weekend for more excitement.

Stoppage time is always a minimum. If there are goals, injuries or more subs, the ref will add time. Especially at the World Cup.

For as much bitching is done with refs in major US sports (college football currently the worst), I’m surprised we aren’t losing our collective minds hosting the WC. Soccer refs are almost purely judgement based. Like we don’t even get to know how much time is left in the game, let alone understand what’s and isn’t a foul during game play, and the squishiness of the boundary lines. It’s just part of the game that the refs hold all of the cards, but if the stakes were higher the US audience could go apeshit a number of times when we all get to bitch at the refs together.

This, you get used to it and it is part of the game. If youre under 45, you have played Fifa and probably a lot.
