the "do you believe in miracles" moment was incredible.
I watched the whole game years later and wanted to cry from joy when he said that
#2 most memorable call on my list after this year? Vern yelling "what are they doing!?!?"

Gibson said it was all in the scouting report. He said that Eckersley loved to go to the backdoor slider in 3-2 counts vs. lefty hitters. Gibson was not fooled!
But Eckersley was such a dominant closer in those years. Gibson couldn't hardly move. The momentum from that game pushed the Dodgers to the title.

+1 I will never understand why that dumbass decided he should try to score by jogging across home plate standing straight up.

I have to go with the Willie Mays' catch
for some reason, it's an enduring highlight
he catches the ball over his shoulder .... whoopty-fricking-do

Second most memorable call is "He's moving like a tremendous machine!"
Both moments still give me goosebumps EVERY SINGLE TIME I HEAR THEM.

The Flutie hailmary against Miami.

I believe the very first event mentioned in the thread is the winner.

How in the hell would you say jordans switch hand lay-up. Have you seen anybody else do that? That was a great play. Nothing over rated about that

That play is EXTREMELY over rated. They play that thing every year like that catch won a national title or something. It was a big play in a meaningless game.
You didnt watch the game live so maybe its over-rated to you. It was a huge match-up between two top notched teams and two of the top QB's in the country. This game went back and forth with Kosar and Flutie both having great games. It wasnt even a lucky hail mary. Phelon just beat the defense deep and no one thought Flutie could throw it that far. He threw about a 65 yard rope to win the game on the last play.

those balls were tipped then caught
Lucky play to win against a last place team

I am in agreement with the Willis Reed suggestion. Surely heroic, but he basically hit two buckets and was a non factor
I agree that his stats weren't much, but his presence probably inspired his teammates.
Walt Frazier put on one of the greatest performances in NBA Finals history, with 36 points, 19 assists and seven rebounds in the Knicks' 113-99 victory.

I suspect that a lot of these people dismissing these moments didn't actually witness them. Miami was a juggernaut. The moment was big.

This might be my favorite. Big Red was the man.

willie mays over the shoulder catch
The catch was a very good one. But, what made the play was the throw from a fast spin directly to the cutoff man getting a huge double play.

the layup by Jordan where he switches hands for no reason.

If you watch the catch. He got an amazing jump on that ball and ran straight back never breaking stride. It was a long way too, the field was so much longer than todays. Maybe overated but a great play in the series.

Either that or a Utah Jazz fan

I wasn't aware that the Jordan play in question was even rated enough to be over rated...

True, but what also made the play was the jump he got on the ball, and the tremendous amount of ground he had to cover to get to it.
Saying it was a typical over-the-shoulder catch that gets made all the time is just dumb.
ETA: bomber77 beat me to it.
