I think centerfield in the Polo Grounds was like 470 feet or something like that.

it's low compared to these others, but most i was thinking of were taken.....and i wanted to play!!!

but, everyone does know exactly what i am talking about. So, it's rated higher than it should be, imo.

How about Michael Jordan's "final shot" against the Jazz?

1. It wasn't his final shot
2. He shoved the guy defending him to the ground

The Gibson homerun was epic, no way that's overrated.

It's hard to deem any moment overrated because for every person/fanbase it's going to mean something different etc. In most any "big" moment you can find a way to fit it into the overall historical context of sports and assign it importance. JMO.

It was about 430. The ball was hit about 420.
And Mays was playing in shallow center when it was hit. And it was hit really hard.

Tyler Hansborough's dunk over Kenny George. I mean George just had his arms up and he's slow as molasses. It wasn't that impressive.

willie mays over the shoulder catch

Not even the best World Series catch. I can't even remember his name (because it's not always mentioned) but the Blue Jays centerfielder leaped into the outfield fence to take away and extra base hit from the Braves and turned a double play. In fact, the umpire missed a call (thinking that the Blue Jay infielder missed a tag) or else it would have been a triple play.

Edit: I looked it up.

Over rated? Do you realize the meaning of that shot? And more often then not the offensive player pushes of in some way. Definetly not over rated

Jeter catching the ball in foul territory then diving into the stands. MLB network listed it in the top 9 catches of all time on their Prime 9 show. Seriously?

I think it was actually listed as 1 of the top 9 in the reagular season.

Wow.
That catch wasn't even close to being as great as Mays' catch was.
Devon White wouldn't have come close the Mays ball.

I think we can pretty much assume that any major sports triumph or catastrophe that happened to a New York or Boston team has been and will continue to be grossly overrated.

You mean like the way they're making a documentary about Reggie Miller and the Knicks?

I am. I was just so pissed at how over-hyped that was by their fans.

I wasn't aware that the Jordan play in question was even rated enough to be over rated...

It's not really, but it's played repeatedly in any montage of Jordan, almost as much as the shot over Ehlo, juts because it was one of the defining memorable moments of the final years of his real career.

How the hell is Gipson's game one HR bigger than Joe Carter ending the World Series with a HR??

1. He could barely walk.
2. That A's team was sick. They sweep the Dodgers if it doesn't happen.
3. A little repetitive, but no way the Dodgers win that series without that play.
4. Carter was game 6. They would have won game 7 anyway.
5. Dennis Eckersley was the greatest relief pitcher EVER at the peak of his game when that happened. Carter hit his off Mitch Williams.

Great points. Wasn't the Carter HR hit while the game was tied? The Gibson shot was a come from behind, 2 out, 2 strike HR.
