Doug Flutie's TD against the worst Miami team of tha era

That play likely got the 5'9" Fltie the Heisman though.

I think what it did to Lidge's entire mentality is rated higher than the actual moment

think that catch and throw deserves every bit of the recognition it gets. That play was absolutely incredible

The key is the throw. Double play to end a potentially big inning for the Indians. A perfect stroike after spinning at full speed. Mays was a rookie in 1951, same year as Mantle.

I actually think that HR did as much as anything else to cost the Astros the world series. He was an absolute wreck after that and never recovered. Prior to that HR that postseason and the postseason before Lidge was the most unhittable pitcher in baseball. After he gave up a frickin homer to Scott frickin Podsednik to blow game 2.

This aspect of it is a bit overrated too. Going into that game, he hadn't been as dominant as he was during the regular season and previous postseason. He was walking more batters. He was kind of shaky. I remember being nervous about him before the Pujols HR.

Don Denkinger.

Everyone forgets that the Royals scored the winning run with one out.

Mays was playing in due to the fact that he wanted a good shot to throw the runner out at the plate on a single. Also, he didn't turn a double play. The throw was so great because the ball was hit so deep in the ballpark that the runner could have actually scored from second on a sac fly. He had to get the throw in quick to keep the runner from advancing two bases instead of one. It was NOT a double play. He covered an unbelievable amount of ground to catch this ball and if you have ever played outfield you know there is no way this play is overrated. For those interested here is a great excerpt about the catch from a Willie Mays biography that just came out. The Catch

My vote for most overrated goes to the Bartman play. Cubs could have gotten out of that inning easily with a double play. Stupid Cubs fans just needed someone to blame besides their players like always.

Seriously. If Jack Clark catches a popup, it's a non-issue. And the Royals won Game 7 by about 1000 runs.
