Jack Youngblood- played a Super Bowl with a broken leg.
Rocky Bleier has to be up there. Overcoming what he did after getting blown up by a hand grenade in Vietnam.

Rocco Francis Marchegiano
After serving in WWII, he was cut by the Cubs farm system. In his mid 20s, and not much of an education, he thought the only way to make money was to become a boxer.
Despite no previous training, and weighing less than 190 pounds, he won all 49 of his heavyweight fights and retired as the only undefeated heavyweight champion.
Cal Ripken-
2,632 games in a row, a few times he had more than one in a day.

Kurt Warner. He never got any breaks and made it long after anyone else would have given up.

Rocky Marciano--Too short, too light, no reach, but wore down bigger opponents in all 49 of his fights.
Phil Taylor----16 time World Champion in darts between the BDO and PDC championship matches.
Tiger Woods---Nobody could stay with him for years when he played his best.
Manny Pacquaio----Never ducked anyone and won titles in 8 different weight divisions from 112-154 lbs. in weight.
Larry Bird---dominant player who never doubted his ability and backed up his brash talk with winning results.
And my favorite, Roberto Duran----Multiple world titles and boxed for 31 years spanning in weight from a low of 118 pounds at the onset to as high as 174 late in his career.

he melted down in the olympics singles and then walked out on his partner in the doubles tournament.
