UFC veteran and U.S. Army Green Beret Tim Kennedy has reportedly been ambushed and wounded while in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kennedy is a decorated Army sniper and special forces operator. He served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and doesn’t shy away from telling war stories during his time defending the country. But despite his experience in the field, Kennedy came close to a fatal injury while in DRC. According to reports, Tim Kennedy was part of a three-man squad that came under fire during an ambush in Central Africa. The attack took place on September 17, when Kennedy’s element came under fire. Throughout the ambush, Kennedy sustained multiple gunshot wounds, most notably three shots to the leg. The squad’s evacuation allegedly took close to eight hours, but Kennedy was medevaced back to the United States for medical treatment, where he remains in stable condition.

He really showed those people who accused him of stolen valor.

I used to be a Tim fan. Hope he’s doing okay

I initially read Congo as Chicago.

The latter is more dangerous.

He definitely lost the respect of many, if not most, people with his lies. I wonder if he was contracting to pay he bills from money lost in view of stolen valor claims?

Democratic Republic of the Congo.

One of the worst places on Earth due to their multi-pronged and never-ending civil war.

An American and a New Zealander fighting Russians and Eastern Europeans in the heart of Africa.

It's not colonialism, it's corrupt African leadership sponsoring the killing to exploit the natural resources at the expense of the regular people in the country.

That tiny little V device is a big deal. It is an easy lie until it's not.

My coworker claims to have served. I've caught him in a few lies but never called him out on it since I've never served. It's sad.

Chicago is a dump, but not even close.

Nothing as wild as Kyle but he did exaggerate some of his accomplishments and I will never understand why. He actually did serve honorably and with distinction. It has to be something in these guys DNA that the are so compete the have to try and one up each other.

Same - will never understand the psychological motivation behind it. He had legitimately and honorably done something that 99.999% of Americans never accomplish. I’ve heard the term “benevolent sociopaths” used for special operations guys before, and I think that might apply here.

The other thing is that if you actually talk to people who’ve won big boy valor awards (say, BSMV or especially SS on up), it was the worst day of their lives (if the award wasn’t posthumous) almost without exception. I had two guys with Silver Stars (unrelated events) in my platoon, and the one time I actually asked each about it, the raw emotion that came through was overwhelming sadness. They generally weren’t traipsing around the battalion or brigade telling every Joe and Harry about their awards.
