Good thing u arent a GM. That's one horrible arse trade. Yes TJ ain't as big of a deal. But the only player in you trade that's worth a dam is shelved. And youre trading Elite players. I doubt they'd go for that for just Donaldson

I know you were just throwing something out there, but you kinda proved my point

Reyes is untradeable status still, so frick that. Especially for a 31 year old 3B in the midst of a terrible season and with injury problems of late.

Donaldson is elite
Tulo is washed up and has a horrible contract paying him 69 million over the next 4 years

Donaldson is arbitration eligible but will be looking at 20+ million

Happ has 1 year and 14 million left

Essentially you are trading for rentals to win now, Toronto will not be able to get top tier prospects on anyone but Donaldson. Getting out of a couple of bad contracts would help them in the future as well. They won't get a great haul if they are including albatross contracts in a deal.

If it is just Donaldson they will get a pick of top 10 farm system/young players in return.

It wouldn't, or even come close so I can't say. Probably still not.

Reyes is too important.

Why not? Cubs traded an elite prospect for a 6 month rental. How'd that work out?

Because it still wouldn't make the Cards a contender, or even that close.

I agree it wouldn't. Cards lineup is waaay more in need than what 1 bat can provide. But we talking hypotheticals. If it was the missing piece to a ring, you most certainly do

Cubs also traded from a position of strength and did not take on a bad contract.

As I said, if the Jays want to get rid of some bad contracts they can tie them with Donaldson. If not then they can get elite prospects from just Donaldson.

Hypothetically!! Lol

I know they're not making this deal. That's my whole point. The parts don't fit. Reyes is about the only piece that's got big potential

Do the Cards have the prospects to just get Donaldson? Reyes, Weaver, and Kelly I assume would be the one they would build a package around. I know Reyes is supposed to be elite and they could build a package around him but what about the other two?

mainly because the Cards don't have elite prospects outside of Reyes. Weaver and Kelly are the only two I've heard mentioned before and neither cracks the Top 50 prospects I believe.

Just looked Kelly came in at 36 and Weaver at 52 Perez at 77 Flaherty at 96

Weaver and Kelly would be more likely. Not sure they're worth Donaldson though. And that's selling some heir apparents

Yeah I know, Reyes in untradeable always has been and TJ isn't changing that.

And Carson Kelly would be so ignorant to trade as the #1 catching prospect in baseball with Yadi aging more and more.

Makes zero sense for the Cards.

Kelly is the #1 catching prospect in baseball, but yeah there aren't that many great ones so overall is #36 still.

But you don't trade him away with aging Yadi.
