I never said they did, I just threw out a hypothetical where the Jays unload a couple of bad contracts and get some young players in return.
Diaz I still think he becomes an above average MLB player just not at short where he didn't have good numbers

You still have a few years. Didn't yadi just sign a big contract?

Meh, it isn't the deathknell like before, teams overlook it with players coming back sooner and in some cases better.

Yes, he still has a few more years left which is what they are doing, bringing Kelly along slowly as he learns under Yadi.

They are way too high internally on Kelly to be trading him.

Last year was a Serious outlier though. He's not coming close to those numbers for a career

sure. but its still statistically factual that major league players who have the TJ procedure still have, on average, shorter careers

its not a death kneel, but its definitely not nothing

I'd be curious to see how this changes moving forward. Especially as we are seeing more players coming back and having it. I mean look at pitchers being drafted it seems a lot of them had TJ surgery in HS or college now.

It'll get less and less of a big deal. Just like everything else

i would love to see the numbers on how many pitchers taken in the first couple of rounds have had TJ. even then, teams are probably more likely to gamble on a 18 year old bouncing back than someone who has put his arm through a professional season

we could definitely be on our way to where its no big deal, i just wouldnt say that right now

It's getting to the point where the concern isn't the injuries and more about the person themselves. Meaning, the surgeries are getting so much better and perfected that the only unknown is the overall durability & susceptibility of it happening again to THAT particular guy. Like Marcus Lattimore. Dudes knees just suck

I mean he came back just fine from a torn ACL but couldn't come back from a broken kneecap and tearing every muscle in his leg

Tommy John surgery is on the rise, and ulnar collateral ligament problems are a major issue in youth baseball. Fifteen to 19-year-olds accounted for 57 percent of Tommy John procedures in the United States from 2007-2011, according to a 2014 study in the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

i have no doubts that tommy john is on the rise amongst pitchers at all stages of play in general

i have already said that it isnt this career altering/ending procedure anymore. but it absolutely is a major procedure and it absolutely isnt nothing and the numbers that we have right now support that

that can obviously change in the future

The fact that it's on the rise is exactly the reason why it's becoming less of a big deal

Yeah I know, just trying to find more information that would answer the question. Obviously we see it rising among kids being drafted (no clue on first round pitchers) and it is rising among you leagues so it will continue to rise in MLB.
