The other way to look at it is look what they gave up to get the number 15 prospect in baseball...

An established MLB hitter with lots of control and 27 HR like Reyes for an unproven 15-20 overall prospect

There’s more to it

Has to be

Not yet revealed, and the league is going to have to fix this one deadline thing, when they won’t even have time to assess deals prior to making moves of their own

I like Reyes, but baseball doesn’t currently value low OBP/high power guys who offer no defensive value that much. Plus the Padres were kind of logjammed with that type of player. Now if he can improve his plate discipline and Trammell keeps regressing, this could obviously blow up on them.

Reds gave up Puig & Trammel for Bauer.

Pretty big haul for sure

Reyes is a proven power hitter that is basically an average to corner OF. His defense is below average but isn’t terrible. Reyes just turned 24 and could improve at the plate. Trammell doesn’t have the arm to play center and doesn’t hit for a lot of power. Trammell walks a lot and has great speed to go with it but doesn’t really do much outside of that. I think I would rather have the proven average corner OF that is still young than someone who is currently in AA just doing ok.

Yeah but calm cool reasoned analysis is so much less fun

The Cincinnati #Reds fully plan to keep Trevor Bauer. They have no intention to flip him before Wednesday's trade deadline.

Baffled at Reds twitter melting down over the trade. They're overrating Trammell and weren't resigning Puig.

You get Bauer for all of 2020 with a qualifying offer or pick attached to him at a decent price.

It was a good trade for the Reds. Put Bauer with Castillo and Gray and that’s not a bad top 3 next year. They weren’t resigning Puig and Trammell had a sort of a down year in AA anyways.

Gonsolin pitched four innings of good ball tonight. He’s got a 95 mph heater, a splitter and a slider. I’m encouraged

Hmm.

Rival exec on the #Padres getting Taylor Trammell for Franmil Reyes and Logan Allen: “Love the deal for San Diego. Trammell has chance to be a star despite the down year. Would trade a DH and a back-end starter any day for that chance, especially when they aren’t contenders yet.”
