The Brewers and Orioles agreed to a last-minute deal that will send infielder Jonathan Schoop from Baltimore to Milwaukee just prior to the non-waiver trade deadline, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (on Twitter).

Right-handed pitching prospect Luis Ortiz is among the players going back to Baltimore in the deal, reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com (Twitter link).

Feinsand further tweets that Jonathan Villar and minor league shortstop Jean Carmona are headed to the Orioles in the deal.

A pitcher with a high octane offense behind him can look WAY better than he is in reality. He pitches more relaxed and doesn't feel the pressure to pinpoint locate every pitch.
You got some data on that?

May not be what they needed but a good move.

Encarnacion stings. Feel like he could easily be a top prospect in a year or so, but we didnt give up anything huge.

Yeah JCE has huge tools but the approach is very unrefined right now. Just the kind of player I would want if I was Baltimore. Like the deal for the Braves, but without JCE it was a trade rape.

Getting O'Day is nice though. Signed through next season too.
Totally rebuilt the pen in a couple days.

Isnt he out for the season?

Apparently he is. Was behind on that news.

Yeah, but he's under control beyond this season so still not bad

We probably didn’t need Encarnacion but he could be really good
Posted on 7/31/18 at 3:29 pm to okietiger
Yeah Encarnacion was probably my favorite lotto ticket in the system over the last couple years but 100 Ks and 13 BBs this year was certainly concerning.
Zimmerman could be good but wayyyyyy down the totem pole with all of our pitching
Obvious FO didn't like Phillips despite how productive he was in Gwinnett
Cumberland cannot play the field
Strong deal imo.

I was initially surprised to give up on Pham, but I’m excited to see what O’Neil does now.

A bit yeah, but at the end of the day if you can get a decent return for a 30 year old batting .248 then pull the trigger.
Plus the bad relationship with the front office from him rejecting that 2 year offer because he won't sell him self short and knows what he is worth.
He wanted to bet on himself and it didn't work out, happens. Good luck in Tampa.

#Indians also made a trade for OF Oscar Mercado from the St. Louis Cardinals for a package including Conner Capel.
No way this can be true? what a bad move by the cardinals if true.
edit: yep, its true

Took a nap and when I woke up....O's made two trades.
Posted on 7/31/18 at 3:47 pm to mizslu314
Yeah, I saw Mercado here last year and liked him. I guess other players passed him up on the depth chart.

O’s got Luis Ortiz Jonathan Villar and another prospect back for Schoop.

A year ago I wasn’t as high on O’Neill as you were. But this year he’s taken his game to another level. He’s making much better contact and his OBP has significantly improved. I would have traded Norris and J Martinez though.

O'Neill is our best hitting prospect since Taveras died.
Starting in CF tonight.
He needs to start the rest of the year, Bader too.

Jesus Christ, what a garbage trade for the Orioles. Are any of those guys even among the top 20 prospects in the Braves system? If you can't even get a top 20 prospect back for him, why not hold on to him for another year? He still has 2.5 more years left of control. Gausman's not great but he's certainly a better pitcher than what he's shown this year. I also think he'll do a lot better pitching for the Braves. He gets to pitch in the NL East while not having to deal with Buck and McDowell anymore. I expect him to return to his 2016 form for them.
