Gerrit Cole was regressing in Pitt. He looks good with that Astro offense behind him and a change of scenery. He would be 8-9 with a 4.25 ERA if the Pirates had held onto him. Just like his 2017 season.

He’s the same exact guy just throwing his fastball less and his offspeed more. Nothing to do with the offense behind him. That is on the Pirates.

So it's the relievers fault Archer has been mediocre for 3 years in a row? And he's just unlucky as you have said 2 times now?

Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe he never makes the adjustments he did after getting traded. No one really saw this type of season coming from him.

Although it's 4pm, don't forget that deals can still come in. Paperwork has to be in by 4pm, but can be announced after that.

Brett Cumberland is in the deal. Braves #30 prospect per MLBPipeline, #99 overall prospect per FG.

Braves drafted him with a comp balance pick that they received from the Orioles for taking on Brian Matusz's salary last summer.

Staying in Pittsburgh would have raised his ERA by nearly 2 runs?

His ERA in 2017 was 4.26. It was 3.88 in 2016. He had been declining every season nearly. My point is that he would NOT be having the season he is having in Pittsburgh like he is in Houston this year.

I agree with your first sentence. The second makes zero sense. A pitcher with a high octane offense behind him can look WAY better than he is in reality. He pitches more relaxed and doesn't feel the pressure to pinpoint locate every pitch.

Wow did Gausman's stock plummet. Nice buy low if that's the actual deal.

JCE easily the biggest loss here for the Braves
