I haven't heard of any offer from Philadelphia, but I would imagine this will draw them back in the mix. NYY as well.
If he ends up signing around $200m I'm gonna laugh my arse off.

At these prices, Middleton can land Harper and Machado and/or Kuechel..
And not even harm their future Trout warchest.

The whole deal is pretty wild. I figured the market would correct after the Pujols/Davis/Ellsbury stinkers but this is insane. Last year I figured teams were waiting to pounce on Manny or Harper...doesn't appear to be the case though.

Both are going to end up with 25-30 million deals. Now let's say a 25 year old ace pitcher was on the market, they would easily break 30 imo

In a day and age where the ball is only in play every four minutes, and where now even puny SS and 2Bers aplenty(and not just the few modern greats at these positions like formerly) hit 1/2 to 2/3rds to the same full amount of HRs by OF "bats"..
None of the everyday players should bitch at all when a true ace collects more than than most everyone else..even if they only participate but for 6 or 7 innings every fourth or fifth day..
12 straight seasons of SO rates holding and/or climbing. Sure, DeGrom had a Bob Gibson-esque season for alltime, but Snell, Bauer, Nola, Verlander, and Scherzer, we're consistently nearly unhittable for major chunks of the year. And how much better are Nola and Verlander's numbers after the first inning when they settle in?

Hell we just saw Kershaw get extended this offseason at 31 million a year. Pitchers are about to get NFL QB treatment and become the highest paid players in the game
Posted on 1/16/19 at 8:23 pm to Falco
True, because Kershaw, though still solid, is now a bit of a pitch to contact Pitcher..not in that DeGrom/Sale category of former.
But, also think that his deal was also unique to one of MLB's few blue bloods with money to burn, and trying to let CK win one and/or finish in Dodger Blue..a luxury most teams wouldn't have provided him at this stage of his career?

What's crazy is that I feel like SPs shelf lives are going to start getting shorter and shorter as scouts continue to rant and rave over nasty sliders and three digit velocity pitches. I wouldn't be surprised to see starting pitchers shelf lives start to resemble that of an NFL RB in a decade or so.

I don’t know if it will be in 1 year or 20 years, but slower control pitchers will make a comeback at some point. There will always be a place for flame throwers though.

Less than what i thought he would get. Yankees looking hard to move Gray as well. Could they work something out with Brewers
Posted on 1/17/19 at 5:06 pm to Falco
I actually think they're nearing a deal with the Braves, per my uncle

Seems they were looking at MLB players who could play multiple positions. Wonder if their focus has shifted to higher-end minor-league talent

Yankees bout to have the best and most talented bullpen in MLB history.

Yankees may be the most talented team in the AL next year
Patton, Severino, Tanaka, Happ, CC are good to great starting 5
Judge needs to stay healthy, see Andujar improve defensively, Gleyber improve offensively, and either Voight or Bird to take control of first plus Sanchez to get back to what he does at catcher. If it goes right this is a dangerous team without Manny or Harper.

They are still a Machado away from matching the Red Sox.
I still can’t believe they gave DJ 12 million a year. He has a career .673 OPS away from Coors. His glove is great, but damn. I totally hope I’m wrong though. Would be awesome to see DJ kill it on a big stage.

Truth, however, MLB.com had an article that said a lot of balls he hit would have gone out in Yankee stadium. Guess he is part of the launch angle thing, DJ is a great defender though and could help the defense if Andujar gets to league level. Red Sox have a bullpen issue right now and need to resign Kimbrel imo to become the favorites again.
