It should be stressed that a very few of players in the minors get bonuses like that. A lot just simply are not making a legitimately liveable wage. I'm not sure how you change that given how many players are involved, but I would love it if the league looked into how to improve it

Curious if we will see Harper or Manny settle for a short term deal to hit FA again. Like would a team be willing to sign either on a two year 60 million dollar contract or would one or the other settle for a one year deal. Seems phillies may not sign either now

Was reading a blog how the Phillies may go after Dallas, Pollock, and Moose (or Kimbrel) instead of Manny or Harper as they could get all 3 for similar value (30 million a year)

if they can get all three of those for 30 million total a year that would be a deal. but i wonder how much dallas is going to demand and i wonder what pollacks market looks like

Dallas 18 million a year over 3 with a player/team option for 4/5
Pollock 15 million a year over 4 with a team option for 5 if he plays in a certain amount of games
Moose 6 million for a season or 12 for 2

Would be a bit more but would round out their team better. Even if they sign Manny or Harper they would still need a few pieces

Personally, I think the Phillies should sign Dallas, Ottavino, and Marwin Gonzalez

these are fangraph's crowd source numbers

dalllas at 19.4 and forecasted for 3.2 WAR
pollock at 16 for 3 WAR
moose 12 at just under 3 WAR

so like 9 WAR for 47 million which would definitely give them more surplus WAR than 30 million into harper or machado

The teams can afford it, even with the number of players involved, but no team wants to be the first one to raise MILB wages. It won't happen until forced.

I remember the numbers being thrown around were pretty reasonable when compared to what's spent on the MLB roster, but I don't remember what the exact numbers were.

The other things they could do, even if they want to keep MILB wages artificially low are:
-Provide housing
-Provide actual meal plans, not just the shitty "training table"
-Pay the players during spring training and instructs

Moose couldn't get 12 last year and settled for 5.5 he isn't getting it this year.

I don't think Dallas gets 20, I think he lands between 18-19 though and Pollock with his injury history I don't think he gets 16. He may get the length he wants if he comes down on that

It's honestly baffling to me that the teams aren't providing MILBers with every single meal. They want these guys to essentially be baseball robots, but then only give them enough money to afford shitty fast food while they live 17 people to a 4 BR apartment.

Phillies will offer Dallas a similar contract to Arrieta that if he performs he can opt into a longer deal

Pay their meals and rent them houses during the season. It isn't hard. Get a large rent house that 6-8 guys can sleep in. Give them groceries for the week and meals on the road.
