I mean if anything Most people have come to realize is that the playoffs are mostly a crapshoot. You just to keep getting there consistently with a good team and hope things break your way

I do believe the window is closed after this season or next, as much as I don't want it to be.

Springer is under contract through 2020, correa and mccullers through 2021, Bregman through 2022.

Right now is the pitching situation past this season unclear? Yes.
During the World Series season what starter pitched the most innings for the astros? Mike Fiers. You know who was WIDELY regarded as fools and one of the worst FA signings? The astros and Charlie Morton. Trying to predict the championship window based on starting staffs right now is foolish.
Forrest Whitley is regarded as close to a "sure thing" as there is in the industry. Regarded as having both a high celing and high floor.
Josh James, JB Bukaukas, Corbin Martin, Cionel Perez all have shown stuff in the minors and James in the majors that they can throw. Maybe they step up and take Morton's slot in the rotation. Maybe they get packaged for a Cole type trade.

All that is to say theres nothing to say that the Astros window is any shorter than any team in the majors. Their major league core has as much talent and as much control as any core in the majors and they have a top ten farm system to go with it. The only other team that can say that is the Dodgers

You forgot Mike fiers in that. We do not make it through 2017 regular season without Mike Fiers and we dont win the wild card in 2015 without Mike Fiers. Hader would have done nothing for us in those two seasons. Well worth it.

So would y’all say Philly has lost any hope of keeping Nola long term now?

I do believe their window is closing and a lot depends on what they do with pitching next year.

Because eventually they will hit, imagine a team with Machafo. They could challenge in that division for the second wild card

What we were hoping for with Harper and Manny has never materialized.

Seems both are down to Philly or White Sox with the Dodgers and Nationals being interested Harper and San Diego as surprise third team for Manny.

So with the Kyler Murray drama do we see a change in MLB rookie contracts? Craig Calcaterra seeks to think so this afternoon
quote:

All of the big Kyler Murray news dropped last night. Upshot: the A’s and Major League Baseball tacitly admitted how much they underpay team-controlled players and made the damn nigh unprecedented move to at least consider paying a player what he’s worth to play baseball. Crazy!

These people thinking MLB rookies deserve 10+ million a year make me laugh. You can't compare baseball to football or basketball as even the surest things never work out. Plus with so many more contracts to hand out over 4+ levels of baseball.

Don’t think anyone is saying a bunch of them deserve 10+ mil but there are certainly rookies out there who do. If Vlad Jr was a free agent right now he would be getting a hell of a lot more than 10m per year.

They’re never going to get “fair” market value but there needs to be a change to the contract structure that allows players to hit the open market earlier IMO

I don't think they deserve that, I do think the service time manipulation needs to be looked at though. They are already getting 3+ million which is nothing compared to football but these contracts are guaranteed and if they turn out to be a star they will make more.
