If Reds deal one of their top10 and sandwich pick for Gray, they clearly want to win and put out a competitive team, and over pay.
gray has very little value, yankees came out and said they wanted to rid themselves of him during the last months of season. And have continued to make him expendable for the roster spot on 40 man. I wanted Cardinals to deal for him a Deadline.
If i was a Reds fan i'd be happy, their org is done with rebuild and wanting to bring in players to compete and win.

Everything that you just said is accurate.

Gray has value, not sure where the idea he doesn't came from. Yes, Cashman said he wanted to trade him he also said he would take fair value. Gray was pretty good away from Yankee Stadium and the Yankees are shopping him more as that type of pitcher.

I feel like he would already be on a new team if he had true "value"

Not true, Yankees have wanted to hold onto him till they secured other needs (CC and Happ) and then CC had a medical scare. Plus I think a lot of teams sent lowball offers thinking the Yankees would just move him.

He's on last year of contract, he's struggled, and was removed from starting staff for a period of time.
His value is not high, i wouldn't pay a C+ prospect for him.
Reds are in a different situation, they are proving to their fans, that they are wanting to win, so they willingly over pay.
Also, if he flops, they are only on the hook for 1 season.

He did struggle at Yankees stadium but produced a 3.17 ERA on the road over 71 innings. He was also removed due to the Yankees getting Happ and Lynn and then he produced a 2.60 ERA in relief.

He sucks. Yanks should dump him to the Reds for trash. And send them cash for that contract as well.

The Reds and Yankees are inching closer to a deal, with two prospects and a draft pick the expected return for Gray. Long and Stephenson (currently the #6 and #7 prospects in the Reds system per MLB.com) are the prospects most likely to be headed to New York.

Jan. 20: It’s possible the Reds are trying to sign Gray to an extension before acquiring him, Rosenthal tweets, though he notes a deal could come together either way.
Jan. 19, 6:08pm: The two sides are “finalizing” the deal, per Heyman, who reports the Yankees will likely receive Long and a draft pick. The Yankees could also land a third piece in the trade, Heyman suggests.

The Dodgers are discussing outfielder Joc Pederson in potential deals, and the White Sox are among the teams they’re talking to, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. It’s unclear, though, whether the two sides are making progress in those conversations.

As a Reds fan I am happy. These rebuilds build up assets through prospects which some will be part of the next successful team, some will be used in trades to bring in players, and some will flame out. You can’t build a team purely from prospects from your system. I think the Reds thought they could draft, develop, and build a rotation purely from prospects. Yeah, that doesn’t work. I’m very happy the Reds are trying to win.

The deal is complete except for the extension
Posted on 1/20/19 at 2:35 pm to tduecen
i think dealing another outfielder who would be a legitimate contributor to 2019 makes no sense

The rumor mill is saying if they deal Joc it is because Pollock or Harper would be signed.
Posted on 1/20/19 at 3:12 pm to tduecen
still wouldnt get it, especially considering id rather have joc at what he will cost over what pollock would cost, but they will literally have to sign either if they trade joc
doesnt seem like something they would do but we will see

Dodgers also rumored to be in on Harrison with like 5 other teams
