Cubs wouldnt do it unless it was less years, and Im sure Cain is looking for his last big deal considering his age

I wouldnt mind him at the top of the order and in CF for 2-3 more years to play that Dexter Fowler role. Doesnt strike out much, gets on base, great defensively. Even if you lose a step you dont really need to be swiping bags at the top of the cub order

It’s more that a lot of his value is tied to his fielding ability than anything related to SBs. When he loses a step will he still be able to hold down CF? Because if he has to move to a corner that value drops hard. If they can get him on 3 years it would be great, 4 could still be fine. Don’t see him getting more than 4

Yeah Im talking 3 year window where he would be fine defensively in CF, similar to what Torii Hunter. He made it til about age 34 before moving to RF

Hunter actually got a 5/90 deal at age 31, Fowler 5/82.5 as a near 31 year old

I bet Cain's agent is referencing those deals

Source: "No deal" for Gerrit Cole to Houston. "False rumor." As is the case with these things, talks could pick back up quickly. For now, though, Gerrit Cole to Houston is not happening.

I am not sure he deserves the 23 but well if the Jays give it to him, so be it. At some point the arbitration bubble will burst. No wonder there is collusion rumors.

It's not really a bubble when it's still well below open market value

Market value is determined by who though? The owners. At some time they will make it an inelastic number for top players.

I am not opposed to players getting what they can, but at some point it is going to flatten and burst, just like every economy does.

A cynic would say that the owners, having been busted for collusion already, would have learned from the reasons they got caught (and not learned their lesson from the actual breaking of the law)...and made sure it won't happen again.

You would say that and you would say that the MLBPA would be as vigilant as ever. But I think them getting rid of Fehr was huge mistake and it has taken some of the teeth away. Also the public will not side with the players as readily if they strike or file any type of legal action unless it is just absurd.

Owners don't have to contact each other to collude, so MLBPA will have ZERO evidence.

Back then, Owners could do anything they wanted, were arrogant to leave huge paper trails. That ain't happening again, 2 many smart MLB owners.

Shocked Twins haven't been a big player in Starting pitchers market.

They desperately need pitching. they got away with smoke and mirrors, and a park that plays to pitching.

I figured they would be in on Lynn and Arrieta.

Arrieta
Buchholz
Cashner
Cobb
Darvish
Garcia
Garza
hellickson
Lackey
Liriano
Lynn
TIllman
Vilquez
Wood

They arent going to spend 150 mil plus on a pitcher. They can still get a couple of those guys if they really need to

Ervin Santana
Jose Berrios
Kyle Gibson
Adalberto Mejia
Phil Hughes/Stephen Gonsalves

Thats a descent rotation

-Santana, is a high end 3, low to mid 2
-Berrios, young stud, ace potential
-Gibson, meh...replaceable
-Mejia, an ok rookie year
-Hughes, never healthy but a good 3 if he is
-Gonsalves, top pitching prospect, 3/4 ceiling

Just bring in someone like Tillman or Cashner on a two/three year deal, and the rotation should be ok.
