Bieber, Glasgow, and Cease are the three names I've heard the Reds involved with the most. Maybe we go after Snell or Montgomery or some shite. We're definitely trying to sign a SP right now.

Seems to be Bieber if through a trade, and Wacha or Giolito if through FA

The Dodgers are discussing a trade in which they would get RHP Tyler Glasnow and OF Manuel Margot from the Rays for RHP Ryan Pepiot and OF Jonny Deluca, sources tell @TheAthletic. Deal not complete. Changes possible. Financial exchange likely. On it: @Bnicklaus7, @AzoulayHaron

The 2024 version of Bieber just doesn’t match up with the name and reputation in my opinion. He’s still a perfectly fine #3 or so but trending down. The Reds should shoot higher than that, they’re a frontline starter away from looking really good next year in my opinion

Love the Rays & what they are able to accomplish, but really tired of them being MLB farm team for big money clubs. Without a title to show for all of their success is getting old.

If history is an indicator Pepiot will be a solid #2 for Tampa starting next season and they won’t miss a beat

I agree, but the conundrum is it's tough to get a big time FA pitcher to come to Cincinnati because of our lack of spending money and our park isn't exactly pitcher friendly. Also, we don't really want to give up any of our top prospects for a one year rental. Bieber makes the most sense. Maybe, he can rebound and be a 1-2 again, Even as a 3 we have Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott to be 1-2.

Major League Baseball will showcase the sport's best young players during a series of spring training games it's calling "Spring Breakout," the league announced Wednesday.

The event, scheduled to take place March 14-17, will pit an organization's best prospect group against another team's in a game that's part of a doubleheader with a regularly scheduled spring game. Although highly regarded prospects often participate in major league spring training games, rosters filled with the best minor league players from each team typically participate on the backfields at spring complexes.

Right-handed starter Tyler Mahle and the Texas Rangers are in agreement on a two-year, $22 million contract, sources told ESPN. Mahle underwent Tommy John surgery in May and should return this season, and he can earn another $5 million in performance bonuses based on IP in 2025.

Dave Roberts should be fired if they don't win a world series next year.

St. Petersburg never had any issue with the name of the team before.

quote:

They began as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998, then shortened their name in 2007 to simply Tampa Bay Rays. Now, as plans for a new ballpark take shape, there's talk about changing the name again to reflect the team's actual location: the St. Petersburg Rays.

It is not something the Rays want, team co-president Brian Auld told the council, suggesting such a requirement could torpedo the entire $6.5 billion ballpark and downtown redevelopment project that includes affordable housing, a Black history museum, a hotel, retail and office space, bars and restaurants.

"We are the Tampa Bay Rays. Our name is deliberately inclusive. Our fans live throughout Tampa Bay and central Florida," said Auld, noting that other local professional sports teams are the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Lightning of the NHL. "There will not be a new ballpark nor development project if there's a requirement to change our franchise's name."

I'm not crazy about this trade. We're taking on a ton of salary and Glasnow can't seem to stay healthy. Margot is a 4th OF. Otoh Pepiot showed good stuff last year and Deluca if a talented defensive OF and can mash as a RH bat in a platoon. Hope I'm wrong
