Trade for Cease, sign Yamamoto, or sign another FA next? I'll assume Kershaw is back but won't pitch until June

BREAKING: Right-hander Tyler Glasnow and the Los Angeles Dodgers are finalizing a five-year, $135 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Once the deal is complete, the trade of Glasnow and Manuel Margot from the Rays to the Dodgers for Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca will be official.

Tyler Glasnow’s deal will start this season, so there are four years and $110 million in new money. The total deal could get to $145M if Dodgers exercise a $30M club option in year 5. If not, Glasnow has a $20M player option. Also of note: There is no deferred money in the deal.

Between a two-year, $13 million deal with outfielder Hunter Renfroe that @Feinsand reported earlier today and the Wacha deal that @ByRobertMurray was on top of, the Royals now have committed $105 million in free agent dollars to Renfroe, Wacha, Lugo, Stratton, Smith and Hampson.

Orioles are staying at Camden Yards for a very long time.

quote:

The Maryland Stadium Authority approved a lease extension for the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Monday in one of the final steps formalizing a long-term agreement between the team and the state.

The deal was set to go before the state's Board of Public Works -- a three-member board chaired by the governor -- later in the day.

The Orioles' lease at Camden Yards expires at the end of the year. In September, the team announced a new 30-year deal to stay in the ballpark, and the governor's office released details of a memorandum of understanding involving the team, the Stadium Authority and Gov. Wes Moore.

The opt outs for Yamamoto are after the 2029 and 2031 seasons, as @Ken_Rosenthal reported.
The Dodgers were not going to give an opt out any earlier in his 12-year contract considering the $50 million signing bonus and $50 million posting fee.

The New York Mets must pay a record luxury tax of nearly $101 million after a fourth-place finish in their division, among an unprecedented eight teams that owe the penalty for the 2023 season.

Owner Steve Cohen's Mets finished with a tax payroll of $374.7 million, according to figures finalized by Major League Baseball on Thursday and obtained by The Associated Press. That topped the previous high of $291.1 million by the 2015 Los Angeles Dodgers.

I doubt Dylan Cease gets traded after seeing what the White Sox wanted from the Reds.

quote:

Jason Williams of the Cincinnati Enquirer sheds some more light on Chicago’s demands, writing that the White Sox wanted Lowder, Edwin Arroyo, Connor Phillips, “and at least one more prospect.”

quote:

670 The Score’s Bruce Levine reported that the Sox had asked for a four-player trade package — pitching prospects Rhett Lowder and Chase Petty, as well as two position-player prospects.

quote:

MLB Pipeline ranks Lowder, Arroyo, and Phillips within the top 68 prospects in all of baseball, while Lowder (45th) and Phillips (86th) also ranked within Baseball America’s last top 100 ranking from September.

Kevin Kiermaier is reportedly “closing in” on a reunion with the club, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, the deal is agreed upon and pending a physical. The new pact is a one-year arrangement worth $10.5MM before incentives according to Nicholson-Smith.
