The reality is that if it was Ohtani, he’s an addict and 0% chance he won’t gamble again in the future. So we’ll know at some point. Almost no one goes cold turkey especially if they aren’t very involved in some sort of help program.

This is beyond obvious. Ohtani is the better. The interpretor is just doing it for him and is the fall guy. Ohtani is too important to MLB/this country and Japan and makes them a ton of money. Of course he is protected.

Like I said, the whole time this guy was supposed to be taking money and placing bets so Ohtani didn’t have a paper trail….
well the evidence points to years where he was just taking money and not placing bets.

Are people saying Ohtani sent this guy money and then took that money and gambled himself?

The Feds are saying this wasn’t to feed a gambling addiction, you got into gambling because you had all this money you could spend.

No they’d stop watching because he got banned from baseball for gambling.

Yeah I don’t know why people are automatically assuming Ohtani is dirty and why it doesn’t make sense to them.

Unless the people driving this narrative are Pete Rose fans with a grudge.

So, if it was Ohtani doing the gambling, should he be banned for life?

Or does Rose get in?

Or maybe he can go play basketball for 2 years.

If they prove with actual incontrovertible stand up in court evidence, as with Pete Rose, that he was gambling on baseball, not assumptions from fans on a message board who’ve seen none of the actual evidence, hell yes he should be banned for life, absolutely.

They should have unbanned Pete Rose if they're going to give a pass to someone for breaking the most fundamental rule in the game.

It's obvious. He's the international face of the league. His interpretor is the fall guy.

The most obvious fall guy in history… the Japanese clearly don’t understand how to take blame for crimes they didn’t commit

I haven't followed the particulars of the case but two things stand out.

Federal prosecutors say the interpreter never bet on baseball. If he was doing this for himself only, while the hell not? He had a great source in Ohtani for inside info.

As for the interpreter taking the fall for Ohtani, he is facing a 5 year sentence. Why would be do this willingly if he weren't the guilty party? There is no way in hell Ohtani could hide millions dollars to pay the guy to take the fall, not with the amount of scrutiny on him moving forward. And no one is doing five years in a federal prison and living the rest of his life as a convicted felon for a couple of million when he could make the same thing from a tell all book deal.

This whole thing is weird.

I wonder if he's going to have an "injury" and miss the season.

Pete Rose doesn't bring eyeballs and revenue from a densely populated foreign nation into play. That's the why of the double standard.
