Is this only for student athletes or can my employer call my salary an NIL payment?

If there’s any state out there rich enough to turn down potential tax revenue, it’s Mississippi

bruh, they cannot pass a law against paying FEDERAL taxes, but if they don't want to charge state taxes, then fck 'em...let them wipe their asses with those hundreds of thousands of state taxes.

State Rep. Dixon McMakin, R-Baton Rouge (and LSU announcer?) authored one last year making NIL earnings for student athletes completely exempt from state taxes. It didn't really go anywhere..

Double Taxation of Social Security
The Process:
Workers pay Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) payroll taxes on their earnings. When these funds are returned as retirement benefits, they may be taxed again.

As a Mississippi resident this is the crap that drives me crazy. Tax the crap out of me yet these players can taking in millions tax free? Then I’ll hear about we don’t have rural hospitals, public education is terrible, teachers pay and well you get the point.

Good. Allowing “kids” to rake in millions because they are employees, but still handling them with kid gloves regarding taxes will draw a line in the sand real fast between fans and athletes. I don’t desire 4 and 5 star recruits enough to essentially help foot the bill.

But they will shut down a lemonade stand

That is some third world stuff right there.
Our society is so out of balance - we need a massive economic recession to pull everyone back to reality…..including college athletics.
But I understand the reasoning - most of these kids are going to run into tax issues with state and irs due to poor tax planning and reporting.

I’ve been saying this for a while. We live in a country where the idols are entertainers, streamers, and influencers…and meanwhile our law enforcement, teachers, and healthcare workers are shite on daily.

Wrong.

Wrong. Taxation of SS depends on income as it is a mechanism for means testing. Most people get out more than they pay into SS. Could they have done better investing their contributions? Sure.
Don't lie to make your point. This always happens on this board. People confidently post lies to prove their grievances.
