Comparing a kid receiving NIL money to tax incentives to lure businesses to your community and state is one of the worst analogies I have yet to see. I knew it was a bad idea to take analogies out of the SAT years ago when they dumbed it down.

A kid buys alcohol, eats, goes to bars to drink, buys necklaces and earrings for himself, and an expensive car.

Businesses invest in plant and equipment to produce products that will be sold in a free market economy. The plants will hire workers who will pay taxes to the state and local governments. Those employees will also generate additional jobs and taxes through the multiplier effect.

So no comparison.

There's an economic ROI with that though in the form of jobs, taxes, and development
successful football teams are incredible economic engines. A popular/successful team generates a shite TON of money for the state, the school and the local community.

Who cares about that you fricking dork? The state of Mississippi benefits massively from having a top end football team.

Think bigger than the individual kid dumbassinohio

is it fundamentally that much different than giving some foreign state company tax rebates/exemptions to relocate/build a site in Mississippi? That happens all the time without a whole ton of bitching and moaning.

True…but are the individual employees who move to or reside in Mississippi and take the jobs exempt from state taxes?

You are being unnecessarily aggressive about cucking for 18 year olds who have 7th grade reading levels. You’re the dork IMO.

No I just understand that schools aren’t trying to get better at football for the hell of it. The primary driver is increasing revenue generation.

Look at UA’s campus before saban and after.

LSU’s 2019 season probably generated 8-9 figures in long term economic activity in La/BR/LSU over what a ho hum 8-4 season would have produced.

You understand that having 100-150k people coming to campus on a November Saturday to watch a top ranked team is a lot more economically fruitful vs 60k coming to watch a 3 or 4 loss team that no one is excited about anymore.

That carries on to having a lot more demand by prospective students to attend the following years.

Again, the state and university of alabama got an amazing ROI on the investment into the saban era.

The POOREST state in the country is too good to charge taxes on NIL. And this is why Mississippi is Mississippi.

You seem to be under the e impression that no income tax suddenly guarantees you saban level success at Alabama. That’s ridiculous.

LSU just signed the number 1 transfer portal class in the country while located in a state that has a flat 3% income tax.

That means whether you play football or put out fires you pay the same tax rate.

There shouldn’t be some exemption for college football players. I can’t believe we’re even at this point. It’s a slap in the face to every resident of Mississippi.

Does the language specify that its only applicable to NIL money for college athletes?

Otherwise, what’s stopping a company from saying they’re going to pay an employee minimum wage for their hours, but give them a few grand a month in tax-free “NIL” payments to appear in posts on the company’s social media marketing or something.

Lamar was also concerned about students receiving huge amounts of money at a very young age, he said, and incurring serious civil and criminal penalties, because they didn't understand how to handle their money.
This logic is completely retarded because state income tax is small change compared to federal income tax rates….and I promise the feds aren’t exempting 18-22 year olds with 6 or 7 figure incomes from paying federal taxes.

I want to see if the language only applies to athletes in football and men’s basketball at Ole Miss and Miss State… baseball peeps gonna be pissed. USM gonna be pissed… surely they don’t want random people benefiting through loopholes

Was Alabama declining to collect tax revenue at the time?

Florida and Texas don’t have state income tax anyway. So wouldn’t school in those states have an advantage anyway?

USC just had the #1 recruiting class . the first non South university in 20 years to have the #1 ranking. with California's obvious heavy tax.

Mississippi didnt have to do this to get elite talent

Those motherfrickers can wait just like me then. They should be paying for tuition + room and board as well.

This only applies to the 4% state income tax. On a $20 million roster, you were talking about $800,000. I'm sure they have a donor that's given that back to the state with no problems.
