We have lost a truly special guy. Coach Leach was an American treasure.

RIP in paradise, Coach.

I do know that he's been suffering heart issues all year long and wasn't taking care of himself, even up until this past weekend.

Real shame. Great loss.

From Feldman’s article a few amusing stories
quote:

Leach was the most accessible coach in the history of football. You could give Mike’s cell number to anyone, and if they texted him, they’d probably end up in a rambling yet profound conversation. One day when I was in Lubbock working on the book, I was watching practice and noticed a shorter guy in his 50s standing next to Leach as he ran his offense. I asked a Tech staffer if the guy was a Red Raiders booster.

“Nah, I think that’s a homeless guy who was standing near the building and Mike brought him out to practice and has been talking to him the whole time.”

That was Leach.

quote:

He was a fantastic play caller because he had an innate feel for people and timing, and he was an even better storyteller for the same reason. There was the childhood story that we opened the book with, about the neighborhood golden lab, Pepe, that tormented him until the day young Mike came up with a plan for revenge and ended up peeing all over the dog. “I’m not sure if this says more about animal behavior or my own,” he told me. It was probably the latter, Mike.

Every SEC football team should have swords painted at midfield for their home opener next year.

All of the comments in this thread talking about the highlights of Mike Leach's life show how much he meant to fans of college football. That's what you do when someone you adore passes. RIP Coach Leach and my condolences to the Leach family, he's former players, and all of Red Raider, MSU Bulldog, and WSU Cougar nation.

It’s crazy how much I liked that guy and how little of it had anything to do with football.

Football Just happened to be the thing that brought that genius in front of the masses.

I’ll show my kids videos of him for years to come.

On top of that he was as innovative a coach as the game has seen.

I'll break the ice on this now that it's been 24 hours...

What does State do next? Interim AD, Interim HC, and a time sensitive mix of portal/ESD/coaching carousel. If they can make it work I'd love to see Kingsbury follow his mentor. Mullen's name is always going to come up. Has Deion put pen to paper? They all bring something different with Kingsbury being the only one who'd keep most of Leach's system.
