Officiating has probably not grown worse, we just get to see the very sharp, slowed down replays a lot now.
No, the issue is they have added so many rules to the rule book, many of which are arbitrary so we as fans are now
1) trained to wait to get excited on any big play until we make sure there’s no little yellow graphic at the bottom
2) we have the ability to consume so many games every day/weekend now instead of just the one or two games in your market, it’s easy to see all of these horrible calls and how inconsistently some of them are called

This.
100% this.
And all of these new rules are very vague so they are prone to broad interpretation, thus, you get more flags.

Can’t figure out Tomlin and his team.
Lose games they are supposed to win and then win games they should have lost. Up and down with the Steelers.

Is your matrix broken? Black man over white woman in most cases. He’s fine.

Black head coach voicing his frustration about being oppressed by a white female. She should be fined and have to pay him.

People have complained for quite some time that we might need higher standards for refs, perhaps more refs on the field etc. If anything, I'm thinking the referee work has gotten worse over time, despite this emphasis.
Men have to referee for years in high school, college and so forth, to get good enough to be in the NFL. Yet we immediately started seeing female NFL refs with the woke crap, and same for college refs. For years I never saw a single female ref in college or pro, then all of a sudden there they are. Today I watched a total of 10 minutes of NFL football and saw at least one female ref. I don't remember the last NFL game I saw where there wasn't one. I'm sure there are still all male crews but I haven't seen one. It shouldn't be a mystery that refs have gotten worse. It's a mathematical certainty that they have lessened the skill level. It's not possible for it to go in any other direction when refs start appearing out of nowhere.
This is from the NFL site on how to become an NFL ref. There is no way we're seeing females with established, 10+yr ref history at high levels.

She is no different than any male ref.

Yep, i cant stand illegal contact. Auto first down, seems to be called only after a 3rd down stop, never see it called in college. Hands to the face is similar

I don’t understand the necessity of putting “female” in OP’s title.

What's up with the Steelers crying about the refs? Johnson went into a rant too.

Just got their asses handed to them by a more physical, more talented team.

Which should also tell anyone with a functioning brain these new rules are leveraged to tilt/rig games much, much easier. And guess, what? That's exactly what they are doing.

As a fan of a team in the SEC, I've been trained on this since the mid 80s, especially when playing certain teams.

Despite seeing officials blatantly ignore obvious calls, watching teams purposely score at the end of games to play the spread, and seeing certain players protected, the NFL is still experiencing a ratings boom.
Perhaps American viewers are OK with their fake football now? WWE is very popular. The NFL is catering to international fans that love fake sports also.
While the NFL may be losing fans that remember the good old days, the new fans seem to not care that its all fake.

Twitter isn’t real life. Tomlin wasn’t even flagged. It’s fine.
I do appreciate how football in general (both college and pros) let coaches get their say in without disrupting the game.
Football officials can get yelled at, cussed, called names, etc. and game just moves on to the next play.
Compared to NBA where you get T’d up for a single cuss word or thrown out the game for laughing on the bench. Or baseball you get thrown out of the game for even questioning or arguing with an ump.
There are terrible football officials, but they at least don’t have egos and hubris
