This is a unique situation, as the team is actually "choosing" to stay inside, not at part of the normal process where it is chosen for them

Why hide in the tunnel though?

I totally understand Tomlin's reasoning as well, but asking a vet to do that is akin to a slap in the face.

No but he couldve easily said..

In my desire to have the focus solely on football, I didnt take into account the importance and sacrifice this would put on one of our leaders. A man who has put it on the line for all of us shouldnt be put in that situation and will not be again.
He could have said that, but man it was a press conference after a loss. I don't think it's fair to expect the most perfect "pc" answer right on the spot. Now if he chose to vilifiy him instead, I would agree. But he didn't and provided an honest answer.

Where one may be prone to using a poor choice of words.

Not sure why you keep bringing up, probably 4+ times now, that he gave an honest answer. No one is disagreeing and saying he was lying, not that I've seen.

People break the rules all the time at a military base.

This situation is unique, not sure why yall are being obtuse to this. Clearly, at a time in which kneeling for the anthem is taking place, it could make a touring army veteran hyper sensitive to the anthem.

You and others disagree with my stance. No biggie

And he went outside, and all Tomlin said was he expected 100% participation. It was an on the spot question during a press conference after a loss. Not a press release with PR people reviewing it or something.

Show me the rule that requires you to go outside on every military base during colors.

I'm just saying that it's not that big of a deal given the circumstances.

It blew up in their face because Villanueva came out, making it appear the team was protesting the anthem.

I dont disagree but the confusion among the players only exacerbates the lack of clarity from the head man. Out of every player in that locker room, youd think that Tomlin would be talking to Villanueva about his feelings on the whole team staying inside.

Agreed. But what he did do was make it known Villanueva went against his wishes by standing for the anthem That isnt really debatable

The context is important here. He wanted the team to do it together. If the team wanted to stand locking arms, which was the 2nd choice according to reports, then he wanted them to do that together as well. He's not criticizing Villanueva for standing for the anthem, as it's being reported. He just wanted the decision to be unified.

Like I've said before, if the team agreed to stand locking arms, and James Harrison took a knee instead, Tomlin would have likely said the same thing in the presser. Then Fox News would make him out to be a hero and the left-wing outlets would make him a villain.

I still don't think what tomlin said is a huge issue at all. And I understand why he wanted what he did

My only points in this threads is:

Yes he did say that Villanueva went against his wishes

I disagree with asking Villanueva to stay in the tunnel

But it seems that in today's world, you can't disagree with someone without people making a huge issue out of it. It's weird to me
