How about you take issue with a major news network spinning a situation for clicks & retweets.

Tomlin made it public that Villanueva went against his wishes for the team

Given the circus this has become, I'm not sure how anyone could disagree with that wish.
Tomlin coaches a guy who has a bronze star and who was willing to give his life for his country. That's why we disagree with him wanting 100% participation.

quote:Agreed. But what he did do was make it known Villanueva went against his wishes by standing for the anthem

That isnt really debatable

He could have chose a better wording too, but he didnt.

We can agree to disagree, but you really need to work on not being a pretentious douchebag.

My criticism is that he asked a former army ranger, who toured, who received a bronze star, to sit back in the locker room and not stand for the anthem
I completely understand why Tomlin did it, but I disagree.
Which is fine, people are allowed to disagree in this country

quote:But he didn't have to stay back in the locker room; he could have stayed back with his teammates in the tunnel. He chose to go out front and center. That was his prerogative, and I don't have a problem with it just like I don't have a problem with Tomlin's honest answer.

quote:Maybe say they have an extremely rare situation in having a bronze star recipient on their team who had friends die for(the way he looks at it) the flag. Therefore he's perfectly fine with him standing for the anthem in the tunnel.
And we already knew that since Tomlin said his entire team would be staying back during a pregame interview. What was he supposed to do? Contradict himself and lie?

You cant see how staying in for the anthem during this time wouldnt be construed one way or the other.. It blew up in their face because they put the wrong person in a awkward position without getting him on board. Tomlin is covering his arse at this point because the organization has egg on its face and he made it worse by his opening line.
It blew up in their face because Villanueva came out, making it appear the team was protesting the anthem.
If James Harrison comes out and kneels while the rest of the team stays in the locker room, it would appear the rest of the team was pro-anthem.
It also appears most players thought Villanueva was exempt from the decision to stay inside:
quote:
And while some players thought Villanueva was exempt because of his military service, veteran linebacker James Harrison was confused.
“We thought we were all in attention with the same agreement, obviously, ” Harrison said. “But, I guess we weren’t.”
Veteran guard Ramon Foster said the team supported Villanueva standing just off the field, while offensive lineman Chris Hubbard said most players assumed Villanueva was an exception to the solidarity.
“Al was cool with it, with whatever we went through. He was on board. That’s Al, man,” Hubbard said. “He’s a good guy.”

That’s not what he asked them to do. Zoom in on the pic and you can see Big Ben standing with his hand over his heart in the tunnel.

No but he couldve easily said..
In my desire to have the focus solely on football, I didnt take into account the importance and sacrifice this would put on one of our leaders. A man who has put it on the line for all of us shouldnt be put in that situation and will not be again.
