EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State has relieved athletics director Alan Haller of his duties, effective immediately, Michigan State president Kevin Guskiewicz announced via press release on Thursday.

Jennifer Smith, who serves as Deputy Athletic Director/Senior Women’s Administration/Compliance, and MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo will be interim athletic directors while a formal search is conducted to find a replacement.

Sources tell SpartanMag that Haller’s lack of vision and strength in the name, image and licensing fund raising space damaged his support internally among department coaches and administrators and ultimately donors.

From what I’ve seen on other boards, fans seemed to like him. Former MSU defensive back.

Hearing from Lansing that Izzo wanted the priorities for NIL funds to be:

1) Basketball
2) Basketball
3) Basketball
4) Basketball

What Izzo wants, Izzo gets.

How do you have NIL problems when guys like Dan Gilbert, Mat Ishbia, and Magic are alums?

The Mel Tucker contract and debacle probably should have been fireable by itself to be fair.

Michigan State is underrated as a dumpster fire program. Izzo is the only one holding things together

It's been a quarter of a century since he won a national title.

Which is wild because just a decade ago they were considered one of, if not the best, run athletic departments in the country. They've fallen off hard and fast

I mean this isn’t CFB. He’s been to 4 final 4s since then and 2 elite 8s since that title run. That very much fits the definition of holding things together.

Donors can be fickle with their money, and Michigan State has had to deal with a lot of shite between Dantonio, Tucker, and Nassar. I think the NCAA just announced another investigation into football violations recently.

I can see why the money might not be where they want it, and why they'd be frustrated with the AD if he isn't doing enough to fix it.

NBA owners can’t contribute to NIL due to league rules.

Yeah, read somewhere they're a top 10 public university as far as billionaire alumni.

So Central Michigan is about to have to forfeit games and give up half their scholarships for three seasons.

What MSU needs is a billionaire alum who instead of buying a sports team just buys players for MSU. Can you imagine if Gilbert or Ishbia went that route?
