Why would the family get money off the movie to start? Especially royalties is ludicrous
As I said before. If the Tuohys all received nothing from the movie. Then yea Michael has no legit gripes.
Other than that I'm not in the movie industry. I don't know how any of this works. All I know is if someone made a movie about me, I would expect to be paid from it.

Who was the movie about? Seems to me like the movie was really about Leanne Touhy….

Michael Ohers agency would have 100% looked into and made him aware of the nature of his conservatorship.
What would trigger the agency to look into this if they didn't know it existed? Is it common to search for legal documents such as this? In the article I posted earlier, the judge said nothing had happened in the case since it was filed. No accounting or anything else. If an agent would have looked at the time, it would seem there would have been some discussion on ending it or getting an accounting or something. It seems it was done to satisfy whatever was needed at the time and than forgotten.

The story is the Tuohys
A kid from a bad upbringing who becomes good at football and makes the nfl isn’t a story. Zero story there unless the kid becomes MJ or Brady level
Regardless, the Tuohys aren’t owed anything either just because a movie is made about you

Pretty sure it's been reported that his "agent" was the lawyer who set up the conservatorship.

You don’t think a party laid to represent you and all your financial future will do basic due diligence to see who has financial ties with you legally?

You don't think a lawyer would investigate if an 18 year old could be legally adopted in your home state?
Again, they keep claiming their lawyer said he couldn't be adopted. Do you really believe their lawyer was that god awful they got something that incredibly easy to find out wrong?

It was definitely conservatorship. Oher and Sean Tuohy have confirmed this. But that is definitely not what the movie implied.
BASED on a true story does not mean historically factual on every level. Insert Hollywood....

That doesn't mean they found the conservatorship. We don't know what he told the agency nor whether the agency found it. If the agency had found it, I would think it would have been dissolved at that point since it wasn't necessary. It's still sitting in the system untouched.

I would disagree. I would say it was about her, but equally about Michael as well.

It was. An "A" list actress played Leanne and they found some nobody to play Michael.

What plays better in a movie - adoption or conservatorship?
Considering the book - The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game - was more about going over left tackle development starting with Lawrence Taylor and also featured Oher’s HS story and recruitment I wouldn’t doubt if rights sold for much less than some best seller and for the net profit Hollywood scam. The screenplay was written by the Director of the film which just makes it more like rights to book sold before Oher and Tuey became sole focus. Trying to first get Julie Roberts and then Sandra Bullock shows the script was made into being a vehicle for a lead actress to be showcased.
I never bought the Tueys as being great people, but I do think the wife benefited more from Sandra Bullocks portrayal than any money received from rights. She became more famous than Oher for awhile and used it to her and family’s advantage. She may have gotten paid extra as consultant and to help market it (real or not wasn’t there a story going around about her strong arming Saban to be in movie?). They were rich before and got richer and famous after movie, but I don’t think they used Oher’s conservatorship to get richer as after movie they became household names.

It was about her and Oher, but the movie/script was made to showcase a famous lead actress. First Julie Roberts said no, and then Sandra Bullock said no several times. She had to meet with Leanne Tuohy to see if she could actually portray the christian part of the story positively as she (Sandra) had some negative feelings towards Christians.

Can I get a summary? I don’t have the time to read 10 threads. Real story or did the couple take advantage of a kid?
Posted on 8/16/23 at 10:01 pm to slutiger5
Sorry, you need to read all 10 threads. Luckily, this one's only 22 pages.

As I’ve read more, I think this suit will backfire eventually.
