Was it legal guardian or conservatorship?
If conservatorship, that isn't what the movie implied, but also, did he or did he not get paid for the movie?
It was definitely conservatorship. Oher and Sean Tuohy have confirmed this. But that is definitely not what the movie implied.

Why aren't they publicly skewering him now?

The movie certainly tried to make it seem otherwise.
Not sure if there is anything legal with my main question, but I want to know if he got paid for the movie, seems he claimed he did not. If he did not, why not? If he did, this one seems pretty cut and dry once that is learned.

In multiple locations a guardianship and conservatorship is the same exact thing besides the nomenclature between if the party is a minor or not. Just FYI

take the Liz. They weren’t trying to mislead or misconstrue anything in that scene

I'm having a hard time buying that Oher believed he was adopted up until February of this year, but who knows.
Allegedly, he knew it was a conservatorship at the time. But he was led to believe that was basically the equivalent to being adopted. He didn't really know what it meant. And he trusted his lawyer(who was a close friend of the Tuohys.)
It wasn't until this year he learned what was actually within the documents that he signed. He's also alleged that the Tuohys was paid for the movie and is receiving royalties, while he received nothing(this part has not been proven).

No one views a conservatorship as becoming part of a family, but you know that. You just won't admit it.

Still misleading. Becoming the legal guardian of someone isn't the same thing as becoming their conservator.

I believe most people think taking someone in to live with you, feeding them, clothing then, paying for them and then adding legal responsibility does make you part of the family

You expect an 18 year old to read a long contract, understand legal jargon, etc?
Posted on 8/16/23 at 10:50 am to QJenk
Just wild how that big ole dummy didn’t get the wild itch to read all that “legal jargon” until now, right before his book. I mean wild how his gamers and attorneys that handled all his contracts didn’t think that was something to maybe look into. Crazy crazy cowinky dink
Such a damn strange thing

She was basically stating they wanted something legally to make him part of the family. Again, no one thinks signing a conservatorship welcomes someone to a family, but that is exactly what that scene did.
If you had zero knowledge of this situation and just watched the movie, there is zero chance you'd be arguing that scene was insinuating a conservatorship over an adoption.

Agreed. If the Tuohys got paid, and Michael did not. That is fricked up, and he should get paid what he is owed. If what Sean alleges is true, and nobody got paid anything (I am particularly skeptical of this, but we'll see) then Michael has no legitimate gripes, and needs to lose this suit and move on)

Do you know how many musicians have been screwed over through their contracts. And they didn't realize until multiple years later that they basically signed all of their rights away? This isn't exactly an uncommon thing.
Posted on 8/16/23 at 10:56 am to QJenk
Michael Ohers agency would have 100% looked into and made him aware of the nature of his conservatorship. They had no skin on that game, so your musical real example is completely off base.

Tuohy told The Daily Memphian: "We didn’t make any money off the movie."
"We were never offered money; we never asked for money," he said, adding that Michael Lewis, the author of the book "The Blind Side," gave the family, including Oher, half of his share. Tuohy told the newspaper that ended up being about $14,000 each.

Allow me to be more precise. I was mainly speaking about the movie. Sean says they were paid nothing from the movie.

Why would the family get money off the movie to start? Especially royalties is ludicrous
A small consultant fee to say thanks? Sure that happens sometimes, but the person that gets paid is whomever owns the memoir or source material it’s written about. You don’t get paid a shite ton of money just because a movie is about you. The entire premise from big Mike is so damn bad on so many angles
