If I’m the Saints I take the kid from Louisville.

Kiper was wrong about Faulk but was right about Alberts.
But he wasn't right about Dilfer.

I don’t remember Mel being such a hack, but maybe I just wasn’t paying attention.

Stop with the St. Jeaux martyrdom.
To stop it has to be started. I felt they had other needs on defense that should've been addressed first, not the generic overreaction of Joe being doomed to a body cast for potentially poor o-line play

Think of all the people ESPN has laid off or fired in the last 10 years. How does Mel Kiper still have a job? Whatever happened to Todd McShay? Last time I saw him he looked bloated and couldn't talk so they had to take him off the broadcast. It was really weird.

Mel is just kind of a legacy thing where he is a caricature of himself.
I'm pretty sure McShay had some booze or pill problems the way he was acting. He always seemed like a little bit of a cocky douchebag to me, but I also don't like seeing people self-destruct. I heard a radio show the other day reference his podcast, so he is out there purporting to be an insider.

quote:I think it's because he's THE draft analyst brand for the NFL at this point. His accuracy would be considered abysmal by any other industry, but he's built himself up to be the expert for this very narrow field. Does ESPN have 2-3 days of prime time draft programing without Kiper? You kind of have to give the guy some credit for keeping this bullshite gig going for as long as he has.

Meh. Dilfer made a pro bowl in his fourth season in Tampa and was the best QB from that draft. The guy they picked was out of the league by year 4.

He's at The Ringer now

McShay has his own Youtube Show on the Ringer network
Its great, much better than anything Kiper has ever done

I still remember Kiper going off on the Colts in the '94 draft because they passed on Dilfer, deciding to draft Marshall Faulk and Trev Alberts and roll with Jim Harbaugh at QB.
Harbaugh had the Colts in the AFC Championship game the '95 season. Marshall Faulk ended up being one of the best RBs in NFL History. Alberts, sure, he was a bust due to injuries, not really due to not being a good player (in my unprofessional opinion).
Dilfer with 113 TDs vs 129 INTs over his career, and had to be carried to a Super Bowl by the Ravens defense and running game.

Yes and no. Dilfer wasn't a world beater, but he was a reliable starter for a number of years. What's most interesting about Dilfer in this scenario is the question of are the Colts in the position to draft Peyton in '98 if they take Dilfer in '94. I think the answer is probably no.
Similar situation with Jimmy Clausen. He performed so terribly that the Panthers were in the position to draft Cam Newton the following year.

Like congratulate the young man.
Kiper gives analysis/opinion. He doesn't need to give "like" congratulations.
There are good reasons to be critical of that pick.

Shadeur
Shedeur is a much better player than some realize. (Or the narratives haters come up with.) All his performances and numbers have to be in the proper context of Colorado always having a below-average offensive line and running game.
He's able to thrive and make plays with a lot of important, fundamental cards stacked against him.
This is not something that should be overlooked because there are a lot of QBs that put up good numbers in college playing in advantageous circumstances, then things change in the NFL. The adverse circumstances increase, and they're not the same player.
Shedeur has proved himself when his surrounding pieces are falling apart.

Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Kiper was paid by the Sanders family to hype him up
