I don't see a problem with it if they coaches and the team had a plan for it

I'd prefer if he just hadn't played as opposed to making it all about him just to take himself out. Really pitiful

Despite all the Ward quitting hate that he deserves

His All American Receiver sat the whole night despite probably not getting drafted in the top 15.

So Ward at least did something...

He played until he got a personal record and then he quit on his team. Selfish move… finish what you started.

His actions make it appear that he was more interested in getting his record than making sure his team actually won the game.

The TDs benefited Cam....and Miami.

Which is more than what Restrepo can say.

I’m definitely not crazy about opt outs, but at least Restrepo gave Miami time to prepare for him not being there.

Imagine going into the locker room in a close game and learning during halftime that your QB just doesn’t play anymore. WTF.

And just to beat a dead horse just a little more, this is the problem with NILOL…Ward actually had zero obligation to the people who paid for him to play for Miami this year. The way money works in CFB is a joke and every donor is the punch line.

I'm sure they knew beforehand about Ward.

I really do hope you’re right, because if he just made this decision himself with no warning then it’s honestly pretty sad.

Pretty sad if his coaches signed off on this. I heard they are something like 1-12 in the 13 bowl games. How the hell are you going to rebuild the brand if he is letting shite like this happen? Not to mention, the staff probably gets a bonus for winning the game.

Cristobal can't be that stupid, can he?

and he got paid. Stupid to play to begin with. I remember SO MANY on here banging on Chase for sitting out his Sr. season. He was assured of nothing had he played, but millions if he sits out. Seems to have worked out well for him. It's easy for a fan to judge a person for 'quitting on their team' but they're not in the same position staring at millions of dollars guaranteed if they sit it out.

To the downvoter, would you have played for that horrid LSU team in 2020 if you were Chase ? And to play in a worthless bowl game when you are assured of millions of dollars last year, only a fool would do so.

No, you need to take the money and win-at-all-costs attitude out of the fans, coaches, and administrators.

You don’t blame a spoiled child for being spoiled. You blame the parents who spoiled him. Schools pay coaches fricking $10,000,000+ a year to recruit guys of questionable character and academic standing because they are athletically gifted and winning and making money are way more important than integrity.

That’s the real problem.

Of course he signed off because he needs Ward, even just for a half, more than Ward needs him.

Strong take

I still say that this should be expected under the NIL/Portal era. These players are spoiled beyond belief and face no real consequences for anything. Worst case, they just go to another school. Is that not finishing what you started?

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. You can’t be pro-NIL and pro-player empowerment and then have a problem with this. The bed has been made.

I agree the real solution is getting the money out of college sports.

But that starts with no celebrating and coddling pussy quitters(coaches & players)
