The Stanford band needs to start playing “Do You Know The Way To San Jose (State)” at this rate.

They already have. One of Kliavkoff's first announcements was that none of that would be a consideration for expansion.

They would've added BYU years ago if he was there.

Their choices are to remain at 10 teams or to add some G5 schools. They aren't stealing a P5 school, just as the Big 12 couldn't.

As I said earlier, I think Kliavkoff has been a failure, but I don't fault him for this. I don't see what other options he has.

The Big 12 was able to get a much better TV deal than expected, so none of their schools are leaving.

SMU is in an odd place. They’re a ways from being TCU for fan support but have a lot of old money donors of course.

It’s a very international school now and relatively small student body (like TCU). But on-campus and community support isn’t anywhere close to somewhere like USC.

While true, even Texas Tech has far more support in Dallas than SMU. Even mid-tier out of state schools like Oklahoma State or Arkansas have more support.

I don’t care how much SMU costs or the wealth of their student body, they can’t compete with large state universities in terms of alumni support and money.

For the purposes of this discussion, that’s irrelevant.

The PAC 12 needs a team in the central time zone and in a large media market.

If you’ve got another realistic option, I’m all ears.

Tulane ain’t it.

Very few of those eyeballs in Dallas are watching SMU.

Tulane isn’t a great option either but both are about the same as far as fan/ alumni support, institutional commitment, on field success, etc

I think SMU fits the academic profile they like, but I really think that they know they can get SMU, where TCU and Houston would be much harder to get. SMU has been trying for decades to get into the BIG 12 only to get shut out every time the opportunity comes up.

This will be irrelevant if Cal, Stanford, Oregon, and Washington join the Big 10 or a combination of those schools.

It's crazy to me that SMU doesn't have a baseball program

Tulane to the Pac-12?

As a fan do you really want them to go to the Pac12?

It’s more money for the school, but under the new format, Tulane is gonna have a pretty good shot at getting in the playoffs from the American especially if SMU leaves after Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston already left.

Why are there too many LSU fans that don't get this?

You’d be stupid to leave the Big XII for the PAC 12 at the moment.

The Big XII isn’t a great league, but it is a secure one. It’s got a TV contract locked in, and none of its remaining teams are probably getting a B1G or SEC invite.

I think the B1G is going to take Washington and Oregon at some point.

Have you seen what SMU has done lately in football? Transfer portal was what got the attention from many people. Looks like they are trying to play against the big boys in football. Will it work by joining the PAC 12?

If Kliavkoff is reaching out to a relatively small private school and Diet Arizona State at this point in the negotiations, he's got to be desperate and not getting an offer that will keep the conference together.

I'm guessing the whole thing collapses and in the next few months and the Arizona Schools, Utah, and CU bolt followed by Oregon and Washington making a move of some kind.

I guess you are hoping for that. PAC 12 will be fine. It just won't be one of the best conferences.

Again, it’s not that important.

What is important is that when Oregon plays at SMU, it will get a lot of attention in Texas and will be aired in a central time zone slot.

They of course hope that SMU will improve with added P5 money and resources.

The reality is that since 2015 realignment, Pac had only one conference to take from and they never did. They branded themselves as a “Sophisticated School” conference while normies just called them the west coast guys.

Meanwhile, the Big12 is going to survive because they grabbed the three of the four largest remaining schools, all of which should be ACC grabs, who are courting Notre Dame.

The way this likely plays out, B1G offers Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and then tells Notre Dame to choose between all of their rivalries and an ACC they don’t exactly fit in with. That pushes Utah, Colorado, Arizonas back to the B12, and I honestly think the conference goes ahead and tries to grow to the Northwest schools and Cal, adding a Boise to round out the league.

And we can cry about “Regional Matchups destroyed” but nobody is looking at the B1G taking Maryland and Rutgers.

Big 12 will be adding Gonzaga and Villanova pretty soon. Colorado, Boise State, & Arizona have been in talks with the Big 12 as well.
