I would of thought Boise St would be a better fit than SMU. I guess I'm out of touch with reality.

I think the future of college football is big national conferences. From coast to coast just like the NFL. For the big money need to have match-ups that excite the whole nation. I wish the SEC would make a pre-emptive strike and look at schools like Arizona and Arizona State. Warm-weather sunbelt schools that stretches the SEC to the West. Those two schools most fit the SEC profile.

The reality is there aren't any more P5 quality schools. So as some of the P5 conferences get larger by taking from other P5 conferences... there is nothing to replace them.

Big 12 will be adding Gonzaga and Villanova.
Not a fricking chance.
Gonzaga? Maybe. They are more likely to join the PAC, though.

At some point, these conferences are too big. It’s ridiculous. I thought that number was 14. Maybe now it’s 16.
Beyond that, are you really a conference? Or are you just affiliated with some other random schools?
And if given the choice to bet: what has a greater chance of being true in 10 years:
1. Cal is in the Big 10
2. Cal does not have a football team.
It would be a tough choice. Same for Stanford, although they seem a bit more serious, but not much.
I hate it, and it’s unfortunate, but I don’t really see a role for these high academic schools in this shitty new world.

Not looking good for the PAC

Three people with knowledge of the discussions said commissioner George Kliavkoff is struggling to find partners willing to pay close to what the league is seeking…“(We) don’t have a deal because it hasn’t been good,” said the AD.

You snooze, you lose.
The Big 12 lost Oklahoma and Texas, and acted immediately by adding 4 teams. You can debate how good the Big 12 is now, compared to before, but they are stable with a better-than-expected TV contract.
There is no way to justify Kliavkoff letting BYU get away and join the Big 12.
Instead, he blustered and bragged about stealing Big 12 schools, when he could've solidified his conference.
Sure, the additions of some of the potential adds to the Pac are not glamorous, but they are similar in stature to the Big 12 additions.
The Big 12 even beat them to the punch by reaching out to Gonzaga.
Had Kliavkoff reached out immediately and added BYU, UNLV, San Diego State and Boise State (or some other combo), then added Gonzaga and St. Mary's for basketball, they would be in a much better place.

Gonzaga announcement to the Big 12 will come within the next 45 days.

The statement they put out a few days ago was hilarious. Like the vote of confidence a week before a coach is fired.
It will all collapse in short order

If the Zags join the Big 12, that will be an even better basketball league.

They need a team in the central time zone, maybe more than one.
And so they want Dallas humidity at 11 AM?

Louisiana Tech and Tulane

This is accurate information. If the PAC-10 loses SDSU and Gonzaga to the Big 12 then the Pac-10 signs SMU and Tulane.

The Big 12 is going to be one badass hoops conference if this happens after they also added Houston and Cincy

I don’t know why New Mexico gets overlooked in these discussions.
I know their football team sucks, but they are right in the middle of PAC 12 Country and Albuquerque-Sante Fe is the No. 48 TV market in the country, ahead of New Orleans, Memphis and Louisville, and just behind Oklahoma City and Birmingham.

If the PAC survives, it will be on Amazon. As a new enterant, Amazon wants as many games as they can get. The market size is much less important to them than it is to the legacy networks, especially because it’s subscriber driven. They need content.

Boise does not have anywhere close to the financial or academic standing as SMU. Boise has improved their academic profile some by seizing the success their football team had, but at one point when that run first started was best known for their truck driving academy and fleet management degree. No one in the PAC wants to be associated academically with Boise.
