At one point in negotiations with NBA Finals host and College Football national championship sideline reporter Maria Taylor, ESPN offered her a raise from her current salary of nearly $1 million per year that would eventually reach almost $5 million, according to sources.

Taylor turned it down.

Taylor, sources said, was hoping to be in the “Stephen A. Smith money” neighborhood, which is near $8 million annually.

But since the initial near $5 million offer was made during last year’s pandemic, the world at ESPN has changed even further. With Disney closely watching the network’s pocketbook, the majority of big earners at ESPN are being asked to take pay cuts.

ESPN looks at its reduction in salary as a market correction. Others in the industry see ESPN devaluing its place as the marquee platform for content creators and hosts.

But, in Taylor, ESPN sees someone it wants to keep. The near $5 million offer was made when ESPN was beginning its reduction of salaries across the board.

Today, ESPN wants to keep Taylor, but the initial offer is not on the table, according to sources. What she is being offered right now is not known, but it is believed to be in the $2 million-$3 million range.

8 mil for Maria Taylor

There is always someone younger and hotter willing to work for less money. When you don’t bring analyst chops you’re infinitely replaceable.

There’s a million other black females ESPN could hire that look just as good as her for less than $1 million. She’s smoking rocks if she thinks she’s worth Steven A Smith money.

Patently absurd. Even the $5 million is far too much. Love him or hate him, Screamin A. is a brand personality. People tune in to see his stupid takes. Maria is a host, a moderator. Nobody is tuning into to see her.

Damn I like Maria Taylor but Stephen A Smith is a big money maker (supposedly) for ESPN. Maria Taylor is a sideline reporter and minor Gameday contributor.

Stephen A runs one of their primary shows.

Stephen A Smith talks out of his arse but dude
1. does his homework
2. creates a ton of content
3. very connected

Maria Taylor does her homework, but she doesn't do nearly as much as SAS.

She was already vastly overpaid. These idiots have no clue what market value is, they just repeat woke nonsense hoping they’ll get their way.

I liked Maria Taylor a lot until some of her comments last year.

She is certainly not worth that kind of money.

She's a good looking woman but a frickin idiot. How soon we forget that she once said Kelly Bryant getting benched for Trevor Lawrence was racially motivated.

LOL 5 mil for her

Thankfully the Mouse is pulling the reigns in, and stopping these asinine contracts. Whoever is at ESPN offering these contracts needs to be fired, and laughed at while packing their stuff.
