I'm from Freeman's hometown, so I like to see him do well. He doesn't even really sound like an Ohio State fan anymore, which is fine. I think he felt pressured to go to Ohio State and somewhat regrets it (though it obviously worked out just fine for his career.) It's that kind of energy he brings that will be attractive to certain recruits. That's the angle he pitches. "Hey, I went to Ohio State and did all of these great things, but it wasn't really the challenge or the environment that I needed to make me a better man and a better teammate."

I don't necessarily agree with him, but it is an interesting approach. We shall see.

If he crashes and burns at Notre Dame, burning bridges at Ohio State and Cincinnati won't be helpful to his career.

It's short sighted at the very least.

Possibly. Waiting for the 15-0 season to back it up.

Talk about glass houses and all. Yeesh.
Freeman didn't get the DC job with TOSU a couple of years ago so I guess he's still mad about that.

Ohio State is going to annihilate them. How has Freeman proven that he is going to be this star coach? Why didn't ND go after Fickell? Something tells me they might be in the coaching market again within 5 years.

Also, Freeman is an OSU alum. I'm guessing he has no desire to ever have that head job if Day were to ever leave.

Where is ND ranked right now in recruiting class and in the top 25 ranking? Where is Kelly and LSU ranked right now in recruiting class and in the top 25 ranking? Many experts trust the new HC at ND will do well as the HC. On the other hand, what the experts saying about Kelly and LSU in the top 25?

Robert Smith said he was threatened by Ohio State coaches in the 90s for majoring in pre-med. They said he wasn't committed and his classes took up too much time. They had a "football" major for the team like basket weaving.

But lets not kid ourselves, this has gone on everywhere forever in CFB. The only "student athletes" are the ones playing sports nobody watches and that make no money for the school.

The irony here is Marcus saying this publicly probably helps Ohio State with recruiting.

Why would Freeman care about OSU’s recruiting (outside of when he’s directly competing for recruits)? Ok, maybe it does help OSU’s recruiting. It also helps ND’s, which is what he actually cares about.

I think people are looking at this as an intentional shot at OSU. It’s not. It was an innocuous comment meant to differentiate ND, not take a shot at OSU. Same with his “same mistake twice”. Freeman’s not Jimbo Fisher. He talks all the time about how he loves/appreciates Tressel and Fickell, and other relationships he made at OSU.

He needs to sell ND to recruits. And one way to do that (among a few different ways) is academics. Which, so far, is working pretty well on the recruiting trail.

Yeah man Marcus Freeman is the exact person you think of when you think racist.

So, Freeman's approach to recruiting will be "Come to ND, where you are forced to go to class, study and maintain high academic standards"...that is going to be his pitch...in the NIL era...that's going to be his pitch? The irony...what a stupid thing to say. Sorry Marcus, recruits are going to where they can win and get rich in the process.

Have you taken a look at their recruiting classes for 23 and 24? The pitch you are mocking seems to be doing alright. MF may not end up being a great HC, but it won’t be because he can’t recruit.

You seem like an idiot who took to many of these tOSU online classes, but I’d be shocked if you actually attended the university.

Their 23 and 24 classes are only ranked high because they simply have a lot or verbal commits right now

Texas tech is currently #2 in recruiting and Northwestern is #4

That should tell you something…..

They have good classes in June at least 6 months and 18 months before the dust settles for those classes.

Their average per recruit is good but not top 1 good

Ohio State won a national title with a QB majoring in Molecular Genetics.
