That’s what I would’ve guessed. The opposite side has this weird little man complex where they have to tear everything else down to elevate their “era”. This is a new phenomenon as I’m sure you’ve noticed because nobody ever did that prior to now. We didn’t grow up trying to discredit Bob Gibson, Mantle or Mays like some do today.

While not entirely wrong, this is too much of an out for both of them. It’s way easier for a pitcher to learn/adjust to a strike zone than it is for a hitter to make quality passes at baseballs 3+ inches off different parts of the plate in their limited plate appearances each game.

If it’s way easier for a pitcher to learn/adjust to a strike zone, I would think two HOFers could adapt to the ABS. This thread is all kinds of dumb.

Not surprised you greatly embellish what 6” looks like.

Well of course they’d have to start throwing over the plate more and have to tweak their strategy.

It’s not ridiculous to think they might not be quite as good nowadays.

Would not be getting those strikes in today’s game.
Maybe not, but Maddux would be fine with moving an inch or two inside and drawing swings, because not swinging around the corners against him was usually the best thing if you wanted to extend the AB. If you made contact your arse was usually going back to the dugout after a light jog to first

IMO there's a stronger argument that Maddux knowing exactly where the strike zone is every single pitch would make him more deadly. He would totally feast on today's aggressive hitters and they would have no fricking idea what to do with his speeds. He'd probably also be 100% on challenges and waste all of an opposition's

Are we only giving him the challenge of ABS in the modern game, or does he get access to things like advanced analytics too? Because with today's intel "Professor" might become "Nobel Laureate"

Let's see pitchers today go 250IP a season.

I gotta say, that was probably the worst called game I’ve ever seen. There were lots of pitches way off the plate called strikes

That McGriff at the plate?

Can't read the name. Moves like him though.

Glavine much more than Maddux, imo.

I agree with this statement.

Maddux was the best at tunneling before it was talked about. His use of the two seamer mixed with his change up on the edges was all world class skill. That man could locate that pitch wherever he wanted. He slowly opened the edges of the zone for himself becasue of his pinpoint control.

I suspect he would do just fine with in the ABS and would adjust with little problem.

But shooting ability wouldn’t be as valuable without the 3 point line.

What? I'm sure you're aware there was a time that the three point line didn't exist in basketball. Scoring points was still a valuable asset. Safe to say Steph could have adjusted to no three point line and still been the best shooter in the game taking mid range shots instead of deep threes.

Yes.

Last out of the game in the NLCS and the Marlins went on to defeat in the Indians in the WS

Sorry, buddy, but I witnessed it with my own eyes. I also coached high school baseball for 15 years.

I love message board turds who immediately assume to know someone and demean what they’ve said just because they don’t agree.

I call a guy out for falsely pulling stuff out about me and I get downvoted. It’s cool, probably because I said that I coached high school baseball. That’s not a flex, just a piece of information to show the other poster that he’s wrong.

Honestly, that experience of mine has very little to do with it. I recall it being a regular topic of conversation among baseball fans then that Glavine was given a very wide zone, especially off the outer edge. I don’t even remember Braves fans disputing it with any real energy.
